I am reading some of these posts and it seems like you have to book pretty far in advance. We are thinking of buying now and would like to take a trip in the fall, October or November. Would we be able to book a room at that late of time? (say in August)

Also are there any other perks that the DVC offers that maybe I have not heard of?

I am convinced I want to buy it, My Husband needs a little more convincing. But I am working on him.

if you are flexible when and where to stay. the year we bought HHI in march. our vaction in june had no ressies. they did have some in VB. we loved it and was not sad we missed our home resort the first year.

Hi kcmyluv,

Welcome to the DIS boards! You may want to start by reading the DVC FAQs (link above), and then see what additional questions you have.

Booking for fall could be easy or tough, depending when and where. The Food and Wine Fest at Epcot at that time may limit availability at BCV & BWV, but you may still be successful there, and very likely would be able to get OKW, if you have some flexibility.

Let us know what other specific questions you have, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of answers.

Keep in mind that the folks here on this board are all Disneyholics and have probably planned every vacation up through 2041. :p

However, we are only a small percentage of the 60,000 plus members. So while we may all book early, that doesn't mean everyone does.

It will vary by season and special events. But if you're somewhat flexible (you call in August, and ANY week in October is fine), then you should be OK.

There are a few things that demand early bookings, Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, Easter, and special events like Epcot's Wine fest. But just regular dates...you're probably OK.

We've had people post here who only booked a week ahead of time and got something.

I'd think late August through November shouldn' be difficult, other than the holiday weeks. We generally recommend you buy where you want to stay the most then depending on that answer, consider buying resale. BCV is the only on property resort selling right now. They have had a few VWL points here and there. They are also selling a few BWV points but not to new members until 1 june (if they last that long).

If you buy from DVC directly, you can make reservations with this years points from the start. That will give you some 6-8 weeks earlier than buying a resale to make the reservation. You could even have the DVC guide check and see if it's available (and get it reserved then) and tie in your reservation this summer/fall to you initial purchase.

Still, if you buy a resale you might get what you want and the cheaper price. You could always make a backup reservation for cash then cancel if the DVC unit comes through.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Wecome to the club. Six months ago I didn't know what a DVC member was and now I are one :.) If you are worried about making ressies for a particular date this year, put out the dates and someone will check for you, right now. This doesn't mean it will be available when you are set with your points, but it will give you an idea. Also if you really want to make sure that you can go home this year, why not rent some points now and when you get your points ,rent them out for the same price. You will have some doubt about your investment until you get "Home" but after that you will know you made the correct decision. I know we did.

Good luck. Rich
