Questions regarding reservations for a party of 10

I still have 2 months until my 180-day window opens up for ADRs, but we have 10 people for 3 of our ADRs. The rest of them will just be DH, me and our 2 sons so those are no problem. Other relatives are joining us for dinner at CRT (about 2 days into the trip), dinner at Chef Mickey's (the day we check-in), and breakfast at 1900 Park Fare (the 5th day of our trip). We are all staying on property so we can do 10 days of ADRs. Since all these meals are popular I am concerned and want to make sure I do this right.

I have done a "trial" of the online ADR system, and it seems pretty easy. However, it says that for parties of 10 or more, you must call Disney dining to make an ADR. But, when I entered the CRT dinner for a party of 6 adults and 4 children (10 total), the time I requested came up as available and the system was ready to take my credit card for payment had this been a real ADR. This was confusing to me, as I thought you have to call for parties of 10. I tried to call Disney Dining, and they seem to think that I can just make the ADRs for a party of 10 online, since it is the same system they use anyway. But I know that the information you receive from Disney Dining could vary from CM to CM.

Since the meals that all 10 of us are going to are very popular, I want to do everything I can to make sure we get them. Should I just type in party of 10 for all 3 of these ADRs? Or should I wait until 7AM and just call to get them? I just want to make them as early as I possibly can. My sister is also wondering if we have to call the group dining line in order to book for a party of 10. Thanks!

I also had to book for a party of 10. Even though it says call for parties of 10 or more I have been able to make ADRs online. The majority of them I made by phone because the online system crashed on October 27th, but a few days later I was able to make a few more online. I would make any ADRs that need a credit card hold by phone if you have the dnining plan otherwise they will charge your card when you book online. Good Luck!!

OK, now it gets complicated. DH, our 2 sons and I are on the DDP but the other 6 people are not. So, I can't do this online and use DDP credits? If I have to pay by credit card and then decide when I arrive to use DDP credits, they will reimburse us and give us a receipt or something in writing indicating the amount we are being reimbursed, right?

Do you think we will have a harder time getting dinner at CRT if I wait until 7AM to call? We are arriving on July 13, 2010 and probably will be at MK, having dinner at CRT on July 15th, so that will be 2 days into the trip.

Bumping this...

Anyone know if I can make the ADR online using DDP credits for only 4 out of 10 people in our party? Anyone know the procedure for getting reimbursed if I first have to put it on my credit card in order to secure the ADR for 10 people? Anyone think I will have trouble getting dinner between 5 and 6PM (middle of July, on the third day of our trip) for 10 people for CRT dinner? Thanks again!

Can anyone verify if this is still true? (That you can indeed make an online reservation for a party of 10, but also the part about them charging your credit card when you book online??) Thanks!

I've just recently booked a reservation for a party of 10 online, so yes, it can be done. I was not asked for a credit card. The restaurant was La Hacienda de San Angel, which is not a credit card guarantee restaurant.

Cinderella's Royal Table and the three dinner shows (Hoop de Doo Revue, Spirit of Aloha Luau, and Mickey's Backyard Barbecue) all require payment in full at the time of booking (since you're booking CRT). Because you're on the dining plan you may want to book this one by phone. The online system, more often than not, will not recognize that you are on a dining plan even after you input your room reservation number, and will attempt to charge you in full (which will be a huge amount of money for 10 guests). If you want to do just the credit card guarantee and not pay in full for CRT, you are probably better off calling and having a person do the booking.

Anyone know if I can make the ADR online using DDP credits for only 4 out of 10 people in our party?

I seriously doubt if you will be able to do this online. The system isn't sophisticated enough to actually tell if you're on the dining plan most of the time, much less distinguish between a mixed DDP/cash party. I'm not even sure you can do this by calling.

You can either pay in full and switch the 4 DDP meals to DDP when you arrive, then get refunded, or do the credit card guarantee and have the cash meals charged when you get there.
