Questions from Another Person Considering DVC

We hadn't really thought about how where you own may well be a bigger deal in the future, but now that it has been mentioned, it really makes sense. Makes me really think the way to go may well be a BCV resale plus something else... maybe CRV if it really is next. I love the theming of AKL, but I have never stayed there because we've always put such a high value on convenience to the parks. (We thought about trying it out for our upcoming September trip, but with all the construction, we chose Boardwalk instead.)

So reading posts, it really sounds like most people end up with between 200 and 300 points... and it seems like it is much easier for resale reasons to buy them seperately at a couple of different locations. Does this sound about right?

I know 160 is the fewest you can get from Disney right now. Can you only buy in blocks of 160 from Disney, or can you add on 25 or 50 here and there once you have bought in?

If you buy directly from Disney, your first contract must be a minimum of 160 points. After that you may add on as few as 25 points at a time if you can pay cash for them. If you want Disney to finance an add on contract, you need to buy at least 50 points. Add on contracts can be any amount equal to or great than the minimums - you don't have to buy in increments of 5 or 10 or any other number.

If you buy resale, you can buy a contract that has less than 160 points as your first contract (assuming you find one that meets your needs). Once you are a member, you may add on directly through Disney if you like - same terms as if you bought your first contract directly from them.
