I have read about points, disney vacatoin club...what is this stuff, and how do i look into joining??

Thanks!

You can't get anywhere near a Disney theme park or cruise ship without finding a DVC Kiosk! They will gladly take up your time and explain it to you. I listened to the guy at Downtown Disney for 45 minutes!

Basically, you buy into the club to become a member and then have a certain amount of 'points' to use to vacation at the places included in the DVC family. We never joined, because it was very expensive to get in, and living on the west coast, we would not be able to take advantage of it often enough. I don't recall the exact amount but it was in the neighborhood of $10,000.00 to join.

I am sure the DVC members on this board can give you more accurate info than me. Denine, are you listening??? :)

MIL & FIL got hooked on DCL this past February. It's now around 18k. It's good for 10 years and they can let family members use the points. Of course, that's if they don't use their points. So far they're extremely pleased. They signed up on the ship one day at sea.

We have been DVC members since 1999. To correct the above post, the membership is good until Jan 2042. So if you join now you have use of your points for almost 40 years. You have to purchase a minimum of 150 pts if you puchase through DVC. Right now the points are priced at $80 pt. When we bought in they were $62 pt in 1999.It is the best money we have ever spent.
We vacation now at least 2-3 times a yr, in 1st class, spaciuos accomadations. We are 46 now and plan on using DVC vacations for many more years, and our children will have the benifits of DVC if we are no longer able to. ;)

DVC is a great option if you vacation regularly... And you don't have to vacation Disney all the time, there are a ton of DVC, non-disney places to go... Skiing, Spas, etc... all over the US and overseas!

It's not like time-share where you are locked into a set location. You select a "home" and your "dues" pay for the upkeep of that location. But your points are good anywhere. At certain times of the year you might use less points for a stay, just depends on what season it is, etc. SO if you are willing to travel during off season you can really get some good deals.

the 15-20k is a good ballpark range for the basic points. But you are figuring that is over 40 years, and financing is available. You have the normal dues and fee's that come with timeshare, but like I said, there really is a lot of flexibility to where and when you go.

Anyway, if you are planning a trip to WDW, definitely stop by a kiosk, or go to the Sales office at the Boardwalk and sign up for a tour of some of the venues... and the new Saratoga (ex-Disney Institute) DVC resort sounds WONDERFUL, it should be ready in the next two years I imagine...

Hope that gives you a better idea. :)

ncligs,
Thanks for the clarification. I cannot even believe it but you are absolutely right. MIL & FIL said it's good for about 42 years. OMG, I cannot believe it. 125 days til the next cruise. Cannot wait to get back and book again. LOL. Their DVC property is the Beach Club Villas. The pictures are gorgeous. I cannot wait to stay there!!!

kshabare ,
Your welcome, your MIL and FIL have made a great decision buying into DVC, it is very flexible. You can go any time of the year, and for as long as you want(3 days, 7days,10 days, etc).Once you stay in a DVC resort (OKW,BCV,BWV,VWL,) on WDW property , you will never stay in a regular hotel room again.
