Questions for Split Stay Veterans

We are contemplating a split stay for our trip in September. Most likely would be 5 nights at Coronado Springs and 3 at Beach Club.

When I tried to book it online, I had to do two totally separate packages. Meaning that I was not able to take advantage of an 8 day MYW ticket and the saving that it brings versus buying a 5-day and a 3-day ticket. Are the CMs able to do it that way over the phone?

I would love to have it all booked under one trip with an 8 day MYW ticket plus dining plan.

Any advice?

Also, if you've done a split stay and it was too much of a hassle, please let me know. I worry a little about packing up and moving during the trip...

TIA,

Lissa

Just realized I posted this in the wrong place. Oops!! So sorry! Meant to post it under Disney Resorts.

Not sure how to move it??

You can book the tickets but the dining won't pull over for more than the number of nights at your first resort and to add tickets twice would cost you a fortune.

For example, you book say 5 nights at the Coronado with an 8 or 9 day ticket (9 days would cost you very little extra) but the dining would only be good for 5 nights/6 days. The park tickets would expire in 14 days from first use.

Then you would have to book a separate room only reservation for the extra 3 nights at the Beach Club-no tickets/no dining. There really isn't any way around this. We used to do this with free dining-book a mod for the first 5 or 6 nights and then book a room only 40% discount rate for the WL CL or BC CL. That way we still get some "free" food for the last few days and would eat our most expensive meals with the free dining credits. Technically the meals would be good until midnight of the day that you check out so you can get 6 days out of the meals if you stretch them or check in late on the first night and don't use any meals. Hope this makes sense!

Agree w/ Chabs- you can do one ticket but you'll have to have 2 reservations and 2 dining plans (and at the second resort, your tickets won't be on your KTTW card...not sure if they can transfer them.) Your second reservation would be "room only" plus dining. I reallllly wish Disney would allow you to make one reservation for 2 resorts but they don't. Still, I'll be doing my 4th split stay in November ;-) I like seeing more resorts and it allows me to stay more days and at a deluxe within my budget. The biggest issue that worries me each time is the delay between check-out and check-in (and the worry that we won't have a room during naptime since I have two little ones) but I've been lucky enough to get to check in early everytime so far! I also highly recommend staying moderate and switching to deluxe ("upgrading")...we've done the reverse and man, is it depressing to downgrade mid-trip!

No way to get the dining plan on a split stay without getting two different tickets.

As already mentioned, the easiest way is to book the longer ticket with the first stay and get the savings and then pay OOP for your meals during the second stay.

Of course, you could book the second stay with just a one day ticket and save it for a future trip. This would allow you to get the DDP for the second stay as well.

As far as Disney is concerned, there is no such thing as a "split stay." You would have 2 separate reservations back to back, that's all. Each reservation must meet the requirements of whatever package you want.

I did "chat" with a specialist on the website, we are trying to do something similar in October, 4 nights AKL and 4 nights BC. They said to make them separate reservations, do 7 day ticket with the 1st (AKL), one day ticket with the 2nd, and do a separate dining plan for both. It's slightly more expensive than an 8 day ticket, but less than if we split the tickets 4/4. Hope that helps!

PS - they also said the hotels offer free transport of luggage from one resort to the other.....

This would work if you had to have DDP for the full trip.

What might be better in the long run is to actually get an 8 day ticket with your first reservation and a 1 day ticket with the second reservation.

You would use the 8 day ticked for this trip, and put the 1-day tix away for a future trip. It would cost a little more this trip ($5/person or whatever the 7-day to 8-day upgrade is), but then you'd have that 1-day ticket for another trip that you could upgrade if you needed more days.

The last time we split was 4 nights at CBR and 3 at Poly. We got the Free dining at CBR and a 40% discount at Poly. We had eaten so much the first 4 days that by the time we got to the Poly we were happy to NOT have the dining plan anymore. LOL!! I'm not sure if this is still the case but the dining credits expire at midnight on the day of check out. We had some credits left that we cashed at Poly to stock up on snacks.
