These question goes out to all of you who are Hospitality/Hospitality Management majors! Just a warning in advance...they might be silly questions, but I'm the type of person that likes to know all the details!

So I'm switching my major from English to...well, something. But Hospitality is one of my top choices! At my college they call it...Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management...but that's pretty much the same thing, haha.

So here are my questions...

1- What kind of jobs can you get with Disney through Hospitality? (If you could be specific, that'd be great!)

2- I know I've read on these boards people say they wanted to work in Guest Relations with Disney since they are hospitality majors...and they got a PI doing that. What is guest relations? Also, what does the job entail?

3- I was talking to someone about my interest in event planning and I told them I really didn't know what direction in college I would go with that...they suggested Hospitality...somehow to me that doesn't make sense. If anyone could shed some light on that, that'd be great!

Well those are yet another round of questions from me
I thank you all for reading and HOPEFULLY answering my questions...THANKS!

:)

You could work anywhere in WDW and it still can count as hospitality, however, the more common jobs for people of that major would be front desk, concierge, full service food and beverage and guest relations (and things like management internships.)

Guest relations is basically the source of any information a guest wants. It's a place where a guest can get an answer to a unique question as well as reach a solution regarding a situation they have. It's mostly problem solving and answering park questions. For a lot of people in the department, guest relations has been something they have been trying to get into for years and many wait a very long time to be chosen to work there. The PI is the easiest (yet still very difficult) way to get into the area, but it's also very difficult to stay at the end.

Event planning is hard for me to explain, it just kind of fits. You have to know customer service and function well with guests (at least I think so) when you plan events at WDW, so having a hospitality background shows that you have a general idea of what people in the travel industry expect, since those are the people you are catering to.

Can you explain this? More so about how difficult it is to stay in at the end?

The guest relations PI is one of the hardest to get. It's super competitive. Someone on facebook said they changed the major requirements, which doesn't include Hospitality, so I don't know what that says for us from Disney.

My school houses the Hospitality Management major in the School of Business so I'm getting a Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management.

There are very few spots for full time in guest relations. Many people wait years in a pool and go through many temporary assignments in order to finally get statused. It is very competitive! From what I've been told, however, he can be a little easier to find something like a front desk job after the GR PI.

Hospitality was not listed as a major, however it's what mine is and it worked for me. :)
