I am going to start getting us packed! I can't believe only 21 more days! But I have a few questions.

DS and I each have our own carry ons and luggage. This was the only way I felt comfortable not going over the 50 pound weight limit.

So now will the scanners damage:
my digital camera
my disposable cameras
my dvds
my portable dvd player

All of the above is going in mine or DS carry on.

I will also be carrying a small columbia backpack with our money, tickets, ids etc in them.

Thanks in advance. I have not flown in over 20 years so this is going to be interesting. I already plan on getting to MKE 2 hours ahead of time. So we can check in - get through security - get breakfast and wait to be flown to MICKEY! :cool1:

I was told that the scanner on the converor belt will not hurt your video camera,or a camera but is not good for regular film. Certain speeds were more of a risk than others.

I was told that the regular film can be handed to the person doing the hand scanning. But I was told not to let CD's or DVD go through the scanning arch that you personally walk through. It is magnetic and will mess up anything like that.

I also just learned not to pack a video camera in the bottom of a carry on bag. Security will make you unpack the bag and run it through a second time without the video camera and make you rescan the camera in it's own little gray plastic bin.

Most ariports ask you to remove any metal on your body, this can be belts, excessive amounts of gold chains, money, or keys. Most airports make you remove your shoes and jackets or suit coats or blazers. I find slip on shoes are the easiest for me to put back on. Just double check that you have everything before you move on. I lost a jacket to multi-piece slacks suit this way.

Allow extra time and just enjoy yourself! :goodvibes

Another warning.....underwire bras (esp VS ones) cause the alarms to go off at MCO. So be aware!

When we pack our carry-on bags this is how we do it....dd has her bag with whatever she will need during the flight and as soon as she gets to the resort. I have the same, but I have all the tickets, conf. that sort of thing. Dh routinely has the 'camera' bag....I pack all of our electronic equip. in a large Ziploc bag....video camera, charger, tapes, digital camera, charger/printer dock, cell phone, Walkman (for dd) and all headphones for use on the flight. When I used a 35mm camera I always put it in the same bag, with the film. Then, I just take it out of dh's carryon bag, put it in it's own tray and send it down the shoot. The security people seem to appreciate it..I've actually gotten thank-yous from them. ANd it makes it easier to keep it all together...no rummaging around in the carry-on bags to locate all electronices.
Another piece of advice is...if you have rolls of coins (for those penny press machines)...keep them where you can get to them quickly. I completely forgot I had a roll of quarters in my carry-on bag and the poor security people were going nuts trying to figure out what it was and where it was...I ended up emptying the whole darn bag out!!! THe people behind me were not amused!!!

You were told wrong. DVD's and CD's are not magnetic and can't be harmed by a metal detector or xray machine. The real reason not to carry them through the metal detector is that they both contain metal and would set it off.

Could it be the video tapes that are not suppose to go through the walk through arch? Could they be affected by it? :confused3

I wear VS IPEX bras exclusively, and fly regularly, and have had NO problem at all with my wires setting off the detectors. In fact in all teh years I've been flying this has never been a problem.

I have a flying/airport security question...

I have a large amount of earrings in both of my ears & tend to were a lot of jewelry that I don't ever take off. Will this affect the metal detectors? I flew into Miami a few years ago & don't remember if I had any problems.

Thanks!

I had my VS bra on in August and had to go through the wand when I set off the alarm. Mine was NOT an IPEX, however. The female TSA agent mentioned that there are certain VS bras that set off the alarm and they end up having to wand.

It can... Depends on how they have the scanners set up.

(Also, I were VS underwires and that has never set the scanner off and I fly weekly!)
