Questions about the Magic & the Western

We're now starting to look at our next cruise more seriously (I guess getting into that vacation mode!). We want to go on the Magic's Western in January. What do I need to know? We're looking at getting cat 11 staterooms this time, as we really can't justify getting verandahs with the current prices. We would be interested in port upgrades, though (what would be the upgrade price from a cat 11 to a cat 5 or 6?). I'm really just looking for all the hints and tips on the western caribbean cruise. How are the ports (the biggest reason for us wanting to do a Disney Cruise is Castaway Cay, so that will be our set aside beach/relaxation day).

Oh, and anymore info on the Magic's drydock changes in September? What all will they be changing? Will the smokestack's appearance be returned to "normal"?

You might want to check into the "secret porthole" rooms. They are on deck 5 with a large porthole that may be partially obstructed by some lifesaving equiptment. But, you get a window for the price of an inside deluxe cabin...well worth the price. WE have had both inside cabins and the "secret" cabins and much prefer the "secret" one. I like waking up in the morning with the sun, not in a pitch black cabin.
We love the Western cruise... mainly because of the great ports! Key West is a great town, loved swimming with the stingrays on Grand Caymen and the Fury catamaran cruise in Cozumel was a riot! Not to mention Carlos and Charlies....! Go for the Western!
