Questions about the Hyatt and ME...

Since we are traveling with 2 young children (DD#2 will be turning 1 year and DD#2 will be 35 months old at the time of our trip in May of 2010) we don't want to lose a whole day and drag the girls up really early so we were thinking of flying in Sat afternoon and spending the night at the hyatt in the terminal. We stayed there the last night of our last trip when delta changed our flight to 7am from 4pm and loved it. So we figured we could come in Sat get a good night sleep then get up early head to ME and check in and get to the parks nice and early.

So...

Can anyone tell me b.c I don't remember and I can't find the answer - where in the terminal is the Hyatt - A or B? Is DME in terminal B?

We have never used DME before we have always rented a car. How would it work if we aren't flying in that day? Do we just bring our bags down to the DME lines and check in and they will take our bags and let us board? How do I give my flight info to them if we aren't flying in that day? Has anyone done this before?

Staying at the Hyatt or other airport area hotel, you do not use the yellow DME tags and you claim your baggage when you arrive in Orlando.

The Hyatt has had (not sure if they still have) a perk whereby they take your bags from your room and pass them on to Magical Express when you check out. Normally you take your bags with you from the Hyatt to the welcoming area (B side lowest level) and to the DME bus.

The Hyatt straddles the A and B sides of the rectangular main terminal buildgin. It's at the end with the high numbered gates (60 and up) and DME is at the other end. If you looked over the balcony rail into the airport area the B side is to your left. Then if you looked out almost straight ahead but slightly to the left and slightly downward then you would see the DME area off in the distance three levels down (from Hyatt balcony level) if you had Superman's X-ray vision.

Be sure your DME reservation is for your Disney resort check in day. It is permissible for some family members to have reserved and take DME to Disney on a later day.

I thought I had read something about bell services collecting your bags if you give them the airline claim check tags which is one of the reasons we want to do that since DH doesn't want to drag a million items around the airport... I assumed that DME wouldn't take our bags unless we were on the bus and this was part of the reason we were doing things this way b/c DH is afraid that DME would lose our bags. The Hyatt was good last time with taking our bags to either curbside check in or the counter if we wanted.

So I just tell DME that we are staying at the Hyatt the night before and we want to take an early morning bus the day we check in? Or do I have to pick a "flight" to tell them that we arrived on for Sunday so that we can get onto the bus to get to our WDW hotel?

Now what about the vouchers - there will be 4 of us - but only two paying b.c both girls will be under 3 but my DD will be 35 months and she is "high spirited" so I doubt she will sit on my lap but would sit if she has her own seat. If we don't pay for them (they will have seats on the plane but that is a separate issue not related to DME or the trip) will disney recognize them and give them vouchers or will they expect them to sit on our laps for the bus ride? When we went last trip we made DME reservations but ended up renting a car - we booked thru AAA who told us that DD doesn't get a seat OR a voucher b.c she was under 3 and free - but then I think I read something that said otherwise.

If you already have your DME reservation to Disney, you don't have to worry about adding a flight number if none was put on file.

The CM's at the welcoming area may or may not direct you, kids and all, to the bus without stopping in front of the welcoming desk. If you are asked how many, say "two adults and two infants. In Disney terminology, an "infant" is someone under three upon arrival and the status does not change until you check out. It is not customary to expect children to sit on laps on the way to Disney.

Day before check out, make sure your printed confirmation for DME home shows four people to reduce the chance although not eliminate all chance of being expected to seat small children on your laps. Extra vouchers, if needed, can be printed out for you then. You can make last minute changes on that day before leaving for the parks. It is okay to leave the DME confirmation unchanged for the sole purpose of not paying an extra person charge for the under 3yo's in the room, provided "infants stay free" applies otherwise.

We went down in the morning had breakfast, went over to DME and got on a bus and were on our way. We didn't have to give a dumby flight reservation or anything. It was a very nice process.

When you book the room, why not just ask them what their current policy is on collecting baggage. The person that said that Hyatt did collect the bags for them went about three years ago. It might not be the current policy. You need to ask them when you reserve your room....

We collected our own bags from the carousel and then went to check in and to our room. They came by during the night to get our bags from outside our room and we didn't see them again until in the Disney resort room. Sorry. Hope that is better.
