Hi,

We have pretty much decided to rent a 2 bedroom condo thru vrbo for our next Disneyland trip. My sister did it for her family of 7 & will never do it any other way as she loved not needing 2 rooms plus having play area for the littles & own bedrooms, kitchen etc.

Anyway, I am leaning towards doing this too with our 2 12yr olds as the price is so good. About $1000 for 5 nights vs $900 at HOJO, $2500 Grand Calif & $1600 Embassy Suites. We have stayed previously at the GC, DLhotel, HOJO. We have also rented thru vrbo numerous other times for vacations & have always had a good experience.

Altho I of course do like staying at the GC, the small size of the room with 2 bigger kids plus the extra $1500 is just not worth it to me.

The thing I think we will miss the most is not having EE during our stay, esp as we are going during a slower time of year, early Feb so the parks won't be open early. This may be our only chance before our kids move out for us to be able to ride the new radiator springs ride in CA as we have not been to DL since they were about 7yrs old (in about 2009) so I just want to make 110% sure we will be able to ride Radiator springs as I have heard you need to be there first thing & the fast passes run out immediately.

Sooo, a couple questions.

It seems nowadays the EE is so much for valuable as the crowds are so much more even in the off season. I read on here recently an idea of if you stay onsite just 1 night you could get 2 days of early entry as you get the day you check in & the day you check out. It seems crazy to do! It would be about $300 to stay at the PPier. Is there anything I am missing? The only plus I see about staying on site here would be the EE. Not worth the cost, right?

Next, I have read the reviews on the condo & all are good saying it was easy to walk to the park from our condo at the end of Magic Way or to walk to & then catch the tram at the Pinocchio parking lot. My concern is when someone else mentioned that if you park at DL & take the tram, sometimes the trams aren't running early enough to get you to the parks 1.5hrs before opening if you are using EE.

We will have 1 day of EE as we will have a 4day hopper pass. I want to make sure that if we do use the EE we will be able to catch the tram at 8am if the park doesn't open at 10am for example. Does anyone have a listing of the hours the trams run?

To wrap up - anyone here have negatives at staying at a condo walking distance to DL (Fire B Lane at end of Magic Way). It looks like about the same walking to HOJO which we altho did not "enjoy" did fine. And we can always take the tram part way if we are tired. I am told it is 5 mins from the tram to the condo. And we don't really need the whole Disney experience as my kids are older & we have gone before plus did 8 full days in WDW 3 yrs ago.

And reassurances or negatives would be appreciated!

First-off. Save the money. It is not worth it to spend that much extra money for 1 more hour in the parks. Where RSR is concerned, FP's usually last for at least the first 3 hours of the day. Sometimes longer. A few weeks ago, they still had FP's available at 1:30pm on a Friday.

Before we moved here, we stayed at the Hikiday Inn on Walnut and walked to the parks each day. Some liked the walk. Others didn't care for if. I loved it. Yes, you can cut the walk down a bit by catching the tram. But if you are worried about getting to the gate ahead of rope drop, just walk the whole way.

By staying off site, you will only have one MM at DL with a park-hopper. My own experience has been that the longest lines to get into the park are the lines to enter for MM. I don't use MM anymore, but I always get to the park right around opening, let the rush get in, and then I enjoy strolling around without the pushing and shoving.

Thank you for the reassurances. Sometimes you just need to have your hand held and told it's ok! Lol. We will go ahead with our condo rental plans.

Not specifically Disneyland related, but quite a few vacation rental scams have been in the news recently. The scammers use pictures and other details from real rentals, and pretend to be the actual owner.

If you are renting from the same owner your sister used, you should be safe :goodvibes
Otherwise, do your best to research and verify the owner.
