Questions about seller shipping on half.com

Hi all,

Just sold my first book on half.com. Printed the packing slip and then went to print a shipping label. Problem is, I don't know how much my package weighs. My question is, do you have to print a shipping label through half.com, or can I just take my package to the local post office and have them set it up for me? Will I still be reimbursed for the set shipping fee from half.com if I do this?

I searched the half.com website, but it feels like they are pushing the print-it-yourself labels, so I have no idea if that's the only way to do it or not. I also want to make sure I'm saving money, so I don't want to overcalculate the weight of my package.

No, you don't have to print a shipping label through half.com. You still get the set shipping amount from half.

When you go to the PO they will weigh it. Tell them that you'd like either media mail or regular mail, whichever is cheaper. On very light books using first class mail will be cheaper and faster than media mail. (Most books media mail is the cheapest.)

Agree with previous posters. You can go to the post office and have them weigh it. Ask them to calculate media vs first class. Also, if I may make a suggestion, you might want to consider getting delivery confirmation. I think it's like 75 cents (I have been out of the half.com business for a while). It will help protect you in case the buyer comes back and says you never sent the item. At least consider it on the higher priced items, it might save you some heartache.

Sometimes you can find out what the book weighs on the details page on half.com.

You need to find out how much your package weighs before creating and printing a prepaid shipping label. You cannot go by the weight that someone else used for the same book because your package might differ from his package.

I agree completely with this!

I've actually had a bad run of ebay sellers who are 'guessing' at the package weights and creating labels online. I've gotten 3 postage due packages within the past 2 months.

I do all media mail and you only get the set amount reimbursed from half.com. So make sure you list your item with media mail only, if they upgrade to expedited shipping it costs you more and you don't get it all back.
