Hopefully our visit to SSR will be an improvement over the Disney Insitute Villas we stayed at a few years ago.

Here are my questions....

1. internet access - wi-fi? hi-speed ethernet connection? what do they have? what's the daily charge?

2. dvd players - do the rooms have them or can you rent them?

3. spa - do we have access to workout area at the spa? is there a indivudual or family rate for that or free for guests? I think I had to pay a daily or weekly rate when it was the old Disney Insitute spa.

Thanks.
Jon

All I can tell you is that you will have a DVD player in your unit if it is a one or two bedroom unit. They're not available in the studios.

1) they have it - but I don't remember the details

2) they are in the 1-bedroom and up - studios don't have them.

3) it is now free to WDW(DVC) resort guest staying at SSR.

High speed access is $9.95/24 hour period. I've read the connection is in the master bedroom by the desk at SSR.

There is wi fi in the public areas. Same price as the high speed. (And it's two seperate purchases you can't buy wi-fi and then connect to high speed on the same payment)

I personally don't like Wi-fil (Very insecure)

I am pretty sure access to the workout room is free if you are staying there.

WiFi is unsecure in that situation, but then again unless you are using a VPN tunnel or SSL, anything sent over the Internet is unsecure. I use WiFi at home. It's set up to only broadcast it's existance to my computer, and requires a login. I consider that pretty darn safe. If you don't even know it's there, it's pretty ahrd to tap into it. Three of my neighbors have unsecured WiFi networks...

I use VPN, but wi-fi is much less secure. I know the tech guys in my office have little toys that ROUNTINELY tap into unsecured wi fi networks.... They can't do that as easily with a hard wire. It's kind of fun to watch, but it certainly keeps me honest! LOL!

I mainly need it to keep up with email and to be able to send and receive documents. A wired connection is fine. I just won't be able to wander around the vast spaces of the 2BR unit at SSR on wi-fi like I do at home.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Jon

As already mentioned, the hi-speed internet access at SSR is in the MBR on the desk beside the very comfortable king sized bed. Either bring your network cable with you or just call Mousekeeping and they'll happily drop off a Cat 5e network cable for you to use during your stay.

If you're geeky like I am, bring your wireless router from home. That is what I did during most of my vacations this summer (including my Disneyland vacation). I wanted the freedom to sit wherever I wanted to sit in my hotel/resort room without having to worry about my kids tripping over the Internet cable. ;)

That's not a bad idea. I'm bringing an ethernet cable anyway might as well bring the linksys router/access point.
