Do they have good food? Do you need ressies for lunch? If I wanted to get the

Nachos de Pollo - Border creation of tortilla chips topped with grilled chicken, red sauce, melted cheese, chorizo (Mexican sausage), jalapenos, tomatoes and sour cream

would I be able to subsitute the chicken for beef and leave everything off of it but cheese?

I don't know about the substitution, but we (DH) ordered it at dinner in July. It was good but not what you typically get from "Mexican" restaurants. The serving was small in comparison to most other places.

Here it is:

Can't answer the substitution....however we've eaten there many times and really like it.

Just to be safe i would get an adr...

I've eaten there a few times in the past, and have a dinner scheduled there again during my upcoming holiday time solo trip. It's one of my favorites. I think the food is excellent. However, I would not recommend ordering any sea food dish in a Mexican resturant, especially this one.

Enjoy.

We were a little disappointed with the quality of food here.If you have good Mexican where you live, then I would try another Epcot rest.

generally the servers don't speak much English. My DS is allergic to all dairy products, and he had to have his meal cheese and sour cream free. I think it took 3 times for it to be right. By the time he got a correct meal, the rest of us were done.

I tried to substtute tomatillo sauce for a different sauce on an enchilada or relleno or something, and got nowhere.

Just keep in mind this restaurant is allegedly 'authentic mexican food' from mexico. Not that 'tex mex' food that we are all used to here in the US.

We were not pleased.

DH really, really likes it. The 2 DS's don't. I'm neutral. We have eaten there several times over the years and I can honestly say, that I've had better Mexican Food elsewhere. It's good, not WOW. The restaurant definitely has atmosphere. Very pretty.

I would hate to tell you not to try it. Many people are very happy with the food. You won't know if you don't try.

The food truly is "authentic mexican", so don't expect to get a burrito or tacos like they serve at most mexican restaurants. The food is flavored naturally without packaged spices.

As for the nachos, we were able to substitute beef for chicken this past january.

I'm not sure about lunch, but you will definately need ADRs for dinner unless you plan to wait awhile.

We love to eat here. When we take a vote for repeat places to eat, this one always comes up. The servers we have had in the past don't always speak clear english but they have done a good job. Sometimes service can be slow there but ok by us, nice to slow down after a crazy day. I got the nachos as my meal last time and I enjoyed them.

I would have to disagree. I think the claim is "authentic" but I have traveled all over Mexico, and think that the quality is more like a high end Taco Bell. I know many people like the restaurant, but we found the food mediocre. We also fought with the server about what a child could get on the Dining Plan. I have to agree that the atmosphere is lovely, and that is what attracts most people to the restaurant, but I would argue that most people have as good or better Mexican food in their hometowns. We would not go back. If I want Mexican at EPCOT, I would do CS from Cantina San Angel, personally.

I agree with op. I was disappointed. I eat most everything but nothing authentic mexican as I had in the past. Only one choice is somewhat on the traditional food side. I would spend the credit somewhere else.

Um, we've been to authentic Mexican places here, and this food was nothing like that. It tasted like nothing more than flour. Usually the Mexican restaurants we go to, whether Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican (I like both!), have flavorful food. Very, very disappointing quality food at San Angel, though the atmosphere was romantic. We wouldn't go back, though. Anyone that can make cheese & sausage taste like flour is not our kind of place to visit.
Cheers!

Well, I have to voice my opinion and say I love San Angel Inn for both the atmosphere and food. I'm from central Texas and have had many types of Mexican food. I would describe this as "interior" Mexican food. Give it a try. You don't have to go back if you don't like it but it's worth a trip once if just for the atmosphere. I would make an ADR even for lunch.

I have eaten there three times now and really enjoy the food and the atmosphere. The last time I was there I had Mole Poblano and it was soooo good. And we were seated facing the volcano! It was a great meal.

We thought the food was bland, bland bland. If you go, go for the atmosphere (which is very pretty) not for the food.

See I think the food is pretty good. Its certainly better than Taco Bell or some other taco/burrito joint. In fact, the cantina outside is much better than Taco Bell. Churros rock.

I have had lots of "authentic" Mexican made by mexicans and in my experience it varies greatly. There is no one way to make a taco, like there is no one way to make a meatloaf.

I have been to San Angel at least a dozen times. The servers all spoke English (some with an accent), the food is good (to me, depends on your taste), and there is a decent amount on the plate.

It is a beautiful restaurant. Too crowded, but all the WDW restaurants are too crowded.

DH likes it, but he likes ALL food. :) 2 of my 4 kids don't like it. One likes it, one can't decide.
