My SIL is buying a PS3 for my brother and nephew for Christmas. The boys (brother and nephew) currently live in Scotland but will be returning to the States next Summer, so she is buying the unit here and then will use a power adapter over in there. From what I understand, the the games will also need to be purchased here as well, as US games will not play on UK PS3 units, and vice versa.

My question has to do with the PlayStation Network. Will a unit purchased in the US have any trouble accessing the PS Network over in the UK? Will the games downloaded play OK?

Any info is appreciated!

My fiance got hes PS3 in the USA and it works here in the UK no problems, the games work fine and he has not had any trouble accessing the PS network and playing the downloaded games :)

That's good to know! We were visiting them this past Summer and DH saw a game in a shop. He was going to pick it up since he hadn't seen it here, but the guy in the shop told him it would not work on a US PS3.

Thanks for the info!

As said, the games will be fine but the Blu-Rays are region protected.

As for online, if there are any downloads for the game available, you may need to register a PSN account for whichever country the game is from - eg I bought Little Big Planet from Florida but any costumes etc wouldn't download and work through my UK psn account :)

:goodvibes

DS has got lots of games from the US
work fine here

You need to check, however, that their TV is able to input PAL signals.
In the UK we are lucky as our latest TV's all decode PAL/SECAM and USA NTSC, the USA TV's generally only decode NTSC.

I'll make sure to tell them this. I imagine they'll register a US account since eventually they'll be back here.

When they got to Scotland, they purchased a TV that would work there and in the States. Is that what you mean? So they should be fine, right?
