Questions about POR and Star Wars?

First off, let me say I have become obsessed with this site and our upcoming land and sea adventure at WDW. I have accomplished nothing in the past two days thanks to all the helpful post. Is it normal that a 35 year old man who enjoys hunting, whitewater and camping spent more than an hour reading about the delicious Dole Whip before heading to the office this morning? I don't think so.

I still need some info. on making our 2nd trip to WDW (my 3rd) as magical as the Millennium Celebration in 00. My DS 10 and DD 12 were promised this trip several years ago and now we are making good on our promise.

Will the Star Wars weekend events still be in full effect on Sunday?
Is the POR a cool place to stay for the kids?
They've kinda out grown the Character Breakfast (even though I had more fun at Chef Mickey's when they were 5 and 6 than they did) what is something cool that you would recommend instead?

Thanks for the reply. You don't happen to know anything about Port Orleans Riverside? In our Brinbaums 2000 guide it reports Dixie Landings as a place for romantic getaways on a budget. This did not thrill my kids when they read that.

There's just as much for the kids to do at POR as anywhere else, and the atmosphere is great for the adults too.
I guess POR would make a great romantic getaway, but our family just found it to be a really great family resort.

My kids are 7 (DD) and 11 (DS) and they loved it. The pool is nicely themed with a slide, and it's just a short walk - relatively- to the POFQ dragon slide pool.
My kids spent a few evenings in the arcade with no complaints. Not exactly state of the art, but it's fine for what it is.
The resort has a marina to rent boats and watermice (or watever the current version is called), surrey bikes are available for taking a tour of the grounds. Food court is nice, kids won't feel out of place at the sitdown restaraunt (Boatwrights) or, believe it or not, the lounge (River Roost Lounge) especially when Bob "the piano man" Jackson is performing.

IMHO I do not think POR is really kid friendly resorts my kids were bored out of there minds... They didnt appreciate the Southern Mansion charm adults do. In moderate category I think that CSR is a much better resorts especially for boys....Me I am a Poly person all the way

Isn't the slide at POR for little kids? My DDs loved the dig site pool and arcade at CSR.

I didn' t say that there wasn't things for kids there, I just stated that IMHO I felt that it wasn't as kid friendly as CSR or some other resorts.

We've been to POR twice, when DD was 5 and again when she was 7. She loved it both times. The slide at the pool isn't only for kids! DH and I both have been down it! The playground is okay. She loved chasing the lizards. She also liked taking the boat to DD. I think it's a good choice, but, of course, I may be bias.

I was actually agreeing with you. I noted that OPs kids weren't little anymore. I had heard (on this board) that the slide at POR is ok for little kids, but not older kids. Since you were at POR, I thought you would be able to comment on this as well. I apologize if you took my post the wrong way.

SOOOOO sorry! I was very tired reading the post( both kids are sick and we leave for Disney in 4 days) . But yes most resorts including POR have pool sides themed towards kids.. Probably to make the parents feel a little better about picking a resort they will like more than the kids..lol

I think a breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe is in order for your family. It's not a character breakfast, per say, but it has a lot of characters. And there's not a lot of whispering going on.

Whispering Canyon is at Wilderness Lodge. All the servers have alternate names, like Ken B. Crasy, and Texas Catfish. There's an all you can eat family style skillet for $10.99 per person, or you can order ala cart. Last weekend both my husband and I ordered the endless milkshake with breakfast ($4.79). I told our server that it seemed a little quiet that day, and she made me get up and lead the whole restaurant in a round of "Hokey-Pokey". I'm sure there are others here that can tell you of their experiences at WCC. Or check out the Dining board for more stories.

And be sure to ask for ketchup (even if you don't want it).

*edited to add* They were even calling the Grand Floridian the "Red Roof Inn".

ThanksGood4chuns, everything is fine, it was all justa pain in the a** to deal with 3 days before we leave but oh well.. Hope you got all the info you were looking for if need anything else let me know..

POR is awesome. We had kids from 14 to 3. Something for all. Fishing,playground,many pools,small motor boats to drive, priveleges at French Quarter too-short ferry ride down river. Buffet breakfast at Animal Kingdom-used to be Donald's Breakfast o' saurus was the favorite character dining experience of our group aged 3 to 61! Character's are very very interactive and funny for all ages.

I love Star Wars weekend!! Meeting Mickey all dressed as a Jedi is the best. The only disappointment I had was that it was obvious that the person they had dressed as Darth Vader for pictures was obviously female and did not know how to stand like Darth Vader...

People go dressed up and everything, and they have storm troopers all over the place along with guest speakers and special effects shows. The storm troopers can be really creepy...which is hilarious against the MGM backdrop.
