Questions about owning multiple contracts

Considering DVC (again, as usual, post trip LOL)

1) What is the smallest contract you can buy through WDW so as to become a "full" member with all benefits?

2) How do you marry that small contract with a larger one purchased via resale for use as one larger bank of points for usage?

3) Would you need to be sure your use year for the contracts is the same, or is that important?

1 - 25 pts. But they may require a larger purchase if you are not already an owner.

2 - if you own 2 contracts that are titled the same and have the same UY, they should be combined as 1 membership. Then pts from both contracts can easily be pooled at 11 months if they are for the same home resort or at 7 months if they are for different home resorts.

3 - same UY month makes things a lot easier. Different UY months means you have 2 master contracts and they can be more challenging to manage.

Thanks Charles :) Info greatly appreciated.

Any idea what that larger purchase might have to be since we are not (yet) owners?

50 points is the minimum for new members, but they might tell you it's 100 and make you negotiate. But you can always start with resale and then purchase 25 points direct after you're a member.

It might work out easier to purchase the larger resale contract first and then the 25 point add on. Easier to get a uy match up. Some resorts are hard to get direct. My guide told me pretty much anything is available for 25 point add on except for VGF and GCV. There may be a short wait for the other resorts they aren't currently selling.

Unless I was looking at a small total anyway, this is the way I'd approach it. For 50 only I might go retail initially but if I planned to do resale also, I'd do resale first. For in between I'd likely do resale and add on 25 if the pass options were a big benefit and only resale if the pass options wasn't that much of a benefit. Once one hits 150-175, I'd essentially plan to do resale plus an add on retail just to have long term options.

jvattes - we bought a direct contract... then got good advice here and are doing what supersnoop is referencing. So we rescinded, are in the process of buying a good resale contract that is a close fit to our needs at a MUCH better price (less than half!), then adding 25 direct. In going through that process, I can definitely see why buying the resale first is good advice! Good luck!

So glad I checked these boards before going direct first, really convinced us to do resale first as well.

Planning on doing a 25 direct sometime next year to get all the benefits assuming those don't change much.

I would buy ASAP. IMO DVD will be changing the direct purchase rules for resale owners as more and more resale buyers use the loop hole.

I think they may already be with the minimum purchase of 50 at CCV.

Couldn't DVD raise the minimum direct buy for resale only owners to 100?

I don't think they could do it that way but they could raise the minimum in general, but they need a balance. I don't see them either doing or being able to say if you're non qualified you have buy more but I guess they could treat them as a new purchase rather than an add on. My assumption is that the add on minimum would be the same for all owners either qualified or non qualified and I think 50 is the best balance with that assumption in mind. They could also institute a policy of a minimum number of qualified points to qualify but I doubt they'd do that retroactively unless it were part of a VIP system which would then affect all owners qualified or not. They could also stop combining contracts which would accomplish much the same thing.
