Questions about February

My mom and I are planning on a 5-6 day DLR trip in February. While I've been to DLR three times, they were always short short trips in either spring or fall. I know the time we're planning to is usually a dead zone from what I've seen, but I'm wondering how much is usually down for refurbishment then. Are there typical refurbs around early February we should expect?

Also, we plan to stay at Disneyland Hotel, but were wondering if Disney ever does deals at that time of the year. I know they have the current promotion for September, so I was definitely curious if there's anything similar in the winter.

Thanks for any help!

It's hard to predict DLR refurbishments, but at this point, it seems likely that Tom Sawyers Island and the Rivers of America, the railroad, and Fantasmic! will still be down in February. Tower of Terror will also be closed, as they are installing the Guardians of the Galaxy overlay (this might also impact the Red Car Trolley and the Pixar Play Parade). I would also guess that one or both of the water rides will probably be down at some point during the winter. Depending on when the holiday season ends, there is a chance that IaSW might be down for at least a little bit of very early February. Last year Jungle Cruise closed for a lengthy period after the holidays ended to have the dock area reworked, so it's not known how long the removal of the Jingle Cruise overlay will take. There are also rumors of a lengthy refurbishment for PotC at some point during the "winter" (but they're just rumors at this point).

I'm not sure I would call it a "dead zone."... It can be fairly busy, and waits for some rides can be fairly long. I've gone 4 or 5 times in late winter/early spring (Jan to mid-March).

Watch out for President's Day week (often called "Ski Week" for half the state, and "Disneyland Week" for the other half of the state). Those 9 days (the weekend before, the week of, and the weekend after) are fairly busy. Likewise, watch out for marathon weekends. And any potential 3 day weekends. And conventions... And the cheerleading competition that puts millions of screaming teenagers in the parks.

Typical refurbs seem to be outside "splashy" water rides (Splash, Grizzly), but not "calmer" water rides (Matterhorn, Storybook Land Canals). Otherwise, it's hit or miss. When it's actually raining, many outdoor rides close... but rain in California is pretty short-lived.

There are usually some deals for on-site hotels, but by deals, I mean maybe $50 less per night.... No where near the prices of off-site.

Thanks so much! We're absolutely avoiding weekends and President's Day, likely will be doing Feb 5-10.

Feb. 5 is the super bowl. Which might mean super bowl mvp parade the day after. Last year it was crazy crowded because of that on Monday.
