Hello,

I have a question. I am in the process of buying DVC next year and I've been looking at the current points per night and per week...my question is this, are the points only for your home resort- for example if my home resort is at AKL and I want to stay at Old Key West, will I be paying at a higher rate because that's not my hime resort. Also, is the point price cheaper at your home resort?

Also, as far as vacations go, does anyone go to any of the Inetrnational destinations at teh 124/per week rate. Are the hotels nice?

Thanks to anyone that can answer!!

The points per night are designated by resort and room type. Each resort has its own point schedule. That is good for every owner, regardless of home resort.

The only difference home resorts make is the booking window. That is, owners can reserve rooms 11 months ahead of time. All other owners must wait until 7 months from checkout. Then it becomes simply a supply issue as some resorts and/or room types book faster with resort owners. For instance, Grand Villas tend to go faster and to resort owners. BWV and BCV tends to book quickly with those owners during October/November when Food & Wine Festival is in full swing. VWL owners tend to book that resort the first couple weeks of December when the Christmas season is in full swing and point costs are the lowest.

The one difference you see among resorts are the amount of points needed for comparable room types. BWV, BCV and VWL all have very similar point schedules (identical save for BWV's cheaper standard room class). SSR is a little bit lower. OKW is the lowest. AKV has several room classes so can either be higher, the same or lower depending on what room class you want.

Generally it is is recommended that you buy enough points for your typical vacation. The size room you want, the season you travel and the resort you prefer to visit repeatedly. Round up so you have some wiggle room and then you can always change your plans as you grow in the system. i.e. stay at other resorts, different seasons and different room types.
