Questions About DAS

Hi, my son is going on a wish trip to Disney World through the Sunshine Foundation later this year (exact dates are still unknown). He is autistic, and we are hoping to get a DAS for him. I have read through many of the posts here talking about the DAS pass, but I can’t seem to find the answers to my specific questions, so please forgive me if any of this has already been asked. Anyway:

1. From what I understand instead of giving us a multi-day ticket with 3 days’ worth of admissions, each person gets three single day tickets. I also read a trip report from another lady whose son went with the Sunshine Foundation, and she said this is how their tickets were, too. Anyway, if we have three single day tickets, will the DAS be able to be linked to all three days or will we have to get a new DAS each morning since it will be a different ticket?
   
   
2. I have read some reports where people say that they were given a return time for a ride of their choice before leaving guest relations. Is being offered this return time a guaranteed thing, or is it something that just a handful of people were lucky enough to receive? I’m asking this because we are planning on going to Epcot on our first day, and if we get an automatic return time right off the bat, it will help with our fastpass + planning.
   
   
3. Right now I am kind of leaning away from buying magic bands due to the cost (almost $100 for our party of 7). But we have two people in our party who I believe may have trouble keeping track of their paper tickets. One is my autistic son, and the other is my mother in law who is in the middle stages of dementia. So when we go back to a ride for our DAS return time, can I hold on to everyone’s tickets and present them to the CM myself, or is there a policy that each individual person has to present their own ticket? If each person has to present their own ticket, I may splurge for the magic bands as those will stay on their wrists.

Hm I don't know with out the bands. If you were using mde you could link everybody's one tickets to it and then guest services would link your das to all your tickets but idk of you can do that without bands.

Yes, the DAS should be available for the full length of your vacation. In fact, I believe now that it's electronic and attached to your MDE account, it is valid for 60 days regardless of ticket media.

I don't believe you can count on this. Some people have asked and been accommodated, others have been directed to the ride to get their first DAS. It is not a standard part of DAS.

MagicBands simply connect to your MDE account and do the same thing as hard (plastic not paper) tickets. There is no requirement to use MBs or for each guest to carry their own; many parents report wearing MBs/carrying tickets for children. You are welcome to use hard tickets and to carry everyone's if that's what works for your party.

Just keep in mind when you're redeeming a DAS return time you need to scan the DAS holders card/band first. You'll need to make sure you know who is who.

I don't believe you can count on this. Some people have asked and been accommodated, others have been directed to the ride to get their first DAS. It is not a standard part of DAS.

When I got my DAS at EPCOT two weeks ago the CM set the first one up as part of the process- it seemed like it was part of the routine, I didn't even know to ask. I don't know if I just got a super helpful CM or if they're making that the new standard but it was a good experience.

1 the das is good for 60 days so you will be fine
2 if they do not offer to set up your first return time ask them and they should set it up for you
3 you can either buy 2 MB or you can just use the cards and have the person with the DAS different card or write peoples names on the card ( for a DAS return time the DAS holder must go first )

So we get a return time, come back at the designated time, and wait in the fastpass line. Then right before we are about to board the ride, he suddenly gets scared and changes his mind. Since we had already waited in line, will they let any of the rest of the family ride? Or maybe let us do something along the same lines of the Child Swap option?

They most likely will not let you ride, although you can certainly ask about the child swap.

if it happens right before you get in to the ride then I can see the CM since they did not know you used a DAS card letting you on but if you get to the first part were you scan your MB and the DAS person dose not want to ride dose not ride then you may have a harder time with it. BUT the person with the DAS should ride when using the DAS return time since this is how it was designed to work.

Thanks, guys. I figured the answer was probably no, but I just wanted to check. I'm not always sure how much my son understands when we try to explain stuff to him, and I could see him changing his mind about a ride at any minute.
