First day I may not be arriving until around 9:30pm. Are the odds greater of getting a crappy room, not even close to my request or a room that no one else wants (something negative about the room for ex)? Or them giving away my room that I requested if I was slated for that room? How does luggage work re Magical express that late, etc? Flight would be landing around 7:45pm. I am not happy about this but there is no other option.

No. What one guest thinks is a crappy room might be the perfect room for another. Plus rooms are assigned 2-3 days out so it's not like you'll get whatever is left over.

That's a possibility, but it's less of one now that they've started texting guests their room number when it's ready.

If you put the Magical Express luggage tags on they will pick them up and deliver them to your room. They advertise to expect your luggage to show up 3-4 hours after you arrive at your resort. Because of this, if our flight lands after 5PM, we grab our luggage and wheel it to the bus.

Hmm. I may have to do this. You can bring your own luggage onto Magical Express?

Stupid question but even in the moderates, they bring the luggage to your room if the Magical express takes it right? You don't have to go get it yourself at Bell services do you? I don't recall when I stayed in a moderate.

Definitely. If your plane lands between 10PM-5AM, you have to. The luggage delivery part does not operate during those hours. But people bring their luggage to the bus at all times. Some prefer that. The driver will stow it under the bus and pull it out when you get to your resort.

Thank you, I was not aware of that. Did you see where I edited above? I asked about luggage to the room delivery at the moderates.

We went last week and arrived late. We finally made it to the resort at about 10:30pm. I got our room ready text before our plane even took off, around 4pm. While our room wasn’t in the building we requested it was a nice first floor room close to the area we requested. We were staying in a value in a standard room and honestly it was a great location with a pool view. So in my experience, nope arriving late doesn’t equate with a crappy room.

I make requests, usually get them. When we get in late it doesn’t matter, because the room ready text comes through before we even take off. You can check the map on your phone to see the location.

You really shouldn’t be picky about room requests. It’s a sure way to be disappointed.

We also get our own bags when we arrive after 7pm.

I know I shouldn't. I just worry so much about not being comfortable in my space.

If you take ME, how long would you say it usually takes you to get to your resort after 7pm?

I think the odds of getting a crappy room the later you arrive are greater. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you will. We’ve got crappy rooms checking in early and great rooms checking in later. It depends on your desired room location. Some locations are popular requests for everyone.

If you do arrive late and are unhappy with your room assignment, you can always request a change for the following day.

They note about 1.5 hours. You may have to wait for the bus to fill. You may be the last stop. I’ve had it be 45 minutes to over an hour. Just depends.

We landed around 630ish last time and I think we were at the resort around 8? We packed what we needed for the night in our carryons and had them hold the bags until the next AM. When I called bell services to deliver the bags, they were delivered within 10 minutes.

It doesn't matter if you arrive at 7 AM or 7 PM, ME's goals are the same.
Their goal is to depart for WDW 30 min after the first guest is on the bus, or when the bus is full, whichever comes first.
Note that's a goal and like everything in the world, sometimes goals aren't met. Sometimes it does take longer for them to leave for any number of reasons.
No one is scheduled on a specific bus so they never wait for a specific passenger before they depart. But they do have to play a delicate dance in when a given bus is due to arrive at a given resort. There's normally only 1 pick up/drop off spot at each resort. If there is a bus there when you arrive, then you'll just be left waiting on the bus till yours can pull up. They try to time it so 1 bus it at a given resort at a time, either dropping off or picking up. Since 1 bus doesn't do both, it can get complicated. So maybe a time or two where your bus has to wait more than 30 min, to space them correctly. It's not the norm though.
All that to say, plan on an avg of 90 min from touchdown till walking in the resort.
30 min or so to deplane and walk to ME check in
30 min or so to load and depart MCO
30 min or so to drive to WDW
From there, it's luck of the draw on if you are the first resort, or the last of 4 (max is usually 4 but again, they can vary at times)

The only problem we've run into arriving late, was getting someone to help us with luggage to our room. The resorts have less staff late in the evenings. Our rooms have never been crappy, and we have never had to wait for a room when we arrive late.

I was a bit worried about this. Do you know what time the quick serves close at the Port Orleans resorts?

I can't speak to POR but as the pp said, your options at Sassagoula are very limited because all but 1 hot station is closed by 11. After that, it's just the burger station open and you are definitely getting heat lamp stuff at that hour. I learned that the hard way after getting back from Villains AH last summer (I had to dress up that sorry patty with the cucumbers I still had in the fridge from Behind the Seeds!)
