The DVC website states that in order to get the discount on the AP you have to order in advance. Is this a hard and fast rule? I was hoping to upgrade 2
MYW tickets to APs for my daughter and I .Since I already have the tickets in hand, how can I manage this? Any advice?

I have received the discount buying the tickets on site. Once we purchased them at the IG entrance to EPCOT and last winter at Down Town Disney. Unless the rules have changed in the last six months, you should be okay.

HBC

must be a new rule.

for my May trip I just brought them at WDW. guest services at Epcot.

where did you see this?

this is what I found on the member website

When a Walt Disney World Annual or Premium Annual Pass is purchased through any Walt Disney World Theme Park or the Downtown Disney Guest Relations location, your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card must be provided and all adults must present a valid driver's license or state identification card showing they reside in the same household. The Pass is good for 365 days from the date of purchase. Renewals will be valid for 365 days from the original Pass Anniversary Date.

On this page, to the right is a button that says:"Become a Disney Passholder." When I clicked it,a tickets and passes page opens. On the page it has a table that says:
Disney Vacation Club Annual Passes
Front gate price:$434.00 advance purchase price: $334.00

Beneath it is:

Disney Vacation Club Premium Annual Passes
Front Gate price: $559.00 Advance purchase: $434.00

Interesting...but there is a contradiction on the site (imagine that ;) ) also from the member site:

What if I don't currently have access to the Walt Disney World Ticket Store?
Please contact Member Services by calling (***) ***-**** to process the purchase for you, or visit a Guest Relations location at any Walt Disney World Theme Park or the Downtown Disney® area to purchase a Pass.

As others have said, yes, you can purchase in person at Guest services, no problem. Be sure to have a photo ID and your DVC Membership card, NOT just a room key that says DVC member. :)
