I will be moving to Florida at the end of May. I currently have both my home and car insurance with American Family. American Family is not available in Florida. Would those of you who live in Florida mind telling me who you use for your home and car insurance? I need to arrange insurance for my home in Florida before I close in mid-May. Thanks!

I moved here from GA, where I used Geico for home and cars. They had the best rates that I had found in that state.
Geico would not insure me here on a rental near the ocean or a house when we purchased, because I'm so close to the Gulf of Mexico. They did insure my cars, however. I found that Allstate would insure my cars much cheaper than Geico, and they offered me homeowner's, as well. I got an extra discount for insuring home and cars with the same company. I checked with State Farm, but the agent himself told me that they couldn't touch Allstate's rates here.
I went with Allstate.

I use Geico for our cars and it is less than Allstate had been (our previous car insurance).

For the house, we were with Allstate, but they decided that we were too high of a risk due to being close to the beach, so they didn't renew a year ago. I found an insurance agent who then found our homeowners insurance through First Floridian.

We have used Allstate in Florida when we moved from MI.

Right now, we use Farm Bureau. I think they may be available in Florida.

We use Safeco for car insurance and State Farm for home. I think the insurance for our house is less than 500 a year. It also includes hurricane insurance.

We have had and still have coverage with State Farm for years. We stayed with it when we moved to Florida in the Fall.

My folks use State Farm...they are 6 blocks from the beach tho, so their homeowners is is wicked expensive!

Is State Farm NOW writing homeowners insurance policies?

Less than $500 a year for homeowners coverage? That's awesome!

We have had our cars insured with State Farm since we got married, a long time. State Farm is also our agent for flood insurance, but the policy isn't really through them. Our homeowners insurance is through a company in TX, our policy was sold to them several years back. When we bought our house, there were no companies writing up homeowners policies due to Hurricane Andrew's cost, several of them went backrupt. We had to go with the FL fund, can't remember the exact name. It cost way more than what we pay now (which is still high IMO), but it was the only one available to us at the time. After the one year anniversary, our policy was sold to our current company.

The closer you are to water, the more you will pay (a lot more). We are close to the Everglades, so that affects the rates too.
