Question regarding hiring hair appliances?

I am from the UK and was hoping that I could use my GHD hair straightners in Orlando, but I have been advised on the UK trip planning forum that they will be useless as they are not dual voltage. So I was wondering if it is possible to hire hair straightners from Disney? I know this is unlikely but I was thinking with the amount of tourists Disney has, maybe it's a possibility:confused3
If not can anyone advise me what hair straightners work well on thick hair. It's a pity to think I'll need to buy these for a 3 week vacation.
Also can any UK brides that may have experienced this tell me what the equivalent of a GHD in the States are?
I am really worried now, as I really depend on my straightners and can't manage 3 weeks without them.:sad2:

Help please

Im from the UK too. I used to have wet to straight straighteners which are the same volt as GHDs and they always worked fine. I have now got GHDs and will be taking them with me in april, cant see why they would be any less effective I know loads of people that have taken theirs and never experienced any problems.:)

I took my GHD's on our last trip, and I have to admit, they were very sluggish and not very effective so I just gave up and tied my hair up.

Not a very helpful comment I know, but I'm just warning you that you're right about them not working so well :lmao:

Saying that, if you stuck at it, you'd probably get the same results, but it may take twice as long as normal.....

i took mine to antigua which has the same voltage and they were fine, i just used a plug adapter

HI I THOUGHT GHD'S WERE AN AMERICAN COMPANY, BUT MAYB THAT DOESN'T MAKE A NY DIFFERENCE? I DONT KNOW WHETHER THESE WOULD BE ANY DIFFERENT, BUT WET TO DRY STAIGHTNERS ARE V GOOD AS WELL, THEY'RE BY REMINGTON. I F YOU COULD GET UR HANDS ON ANY CERAMIC ONES I THINKTHEY SHOULD ALSO B OK, ALSO TRY USING A GOOD STRAIGHTNING BALM:bride:

i took my ghds on my last trip and i also ended up not using them as they didnt heat up much and were useless so for my trip in 4 months time i am buying the new ghds that adjust according to voltage so the new pair will work just as good in florida as in the uk! hope this is of some help x

I have the opposite problem. I'm going from the USA to Europe and I needed an iron that will work there. I contacted GHD and I was told that they now have a new model - mark 4 - that will work worldwide. :thumbsup2

Hey Summer - what model GHDs have you got?

Mine are MK.4 and will work universally - they are the new ones out and I got them for Xmas :) If you are really stuck, I am there the same time, you could borrow them :teeth: But you'll probably want straightners for the whole of your vacation right, and not just your wedding day?

Thats so nice of you to consider doing that:hug: What a nice person you are!

From the UK also,

I took my GHDs (model 3) to WDW in Nov. they worked just as well as in UK but needed about 20 mins to get hot enough for the light to begin flashing. (the light should only flash when they are at the correct temp. I think).

Thank you - you're making me go all red now :goodvibes I would just hate it if I were in that position on my wedding day and I couldn't do my hair the way I wanted... I love my GHDs  If you can't find any for your wedding day, I'll be in ASMo :thumbsup2

Summer-Caitlin- I was just thinking, my cosmotologist brought a straightener on the day of my wedding-- so you could just use hers. And if its really important to you to get one here it might be cheaper to head to walmart and get a 30 dollar one. Wont work great but might just save you some money. Or maybe try looking online. I wish I had kept my old straightener before I got my new one I would be happy to send it to you in Florida. Actually-- ill go to my moms and see if I still have it there. If so ill just send it to you-- it was about an 80 dollar straightener!!

Aww, everyone's trying to help Summer out :) That's a really good idea with the cosmetologist, I didn't even think of that!

I guess you could sell your old straightners on Ebay Summer, and buy the new Mk4 GHDs... although they are really expensive now, I paid £155 ($310) for mine at Xmas in the gift bag - however I don't know what I would do without them...

ive got to go to my moms today so ill look while im there!! Ill let you know if i still have it!

Okay, I still have my old flat iron. Here is a photo. It doesnt get AS hot as my new one-- but it does work (or atleast used to). I can hook it up tonight and make sure. If you need it you can let me know where i should ship it..

ETA: Here's a better photo of the exact same flat iron I found on e-bay. This might have more info about it than I can give...

Summer-- i know your probobly sleeping so when you wake up just let me know. Ive got it hooked up right now and its actually really really hot-- much hotter than I remember. I think its just about as hot as my new one. This one is bulkier than my new one so that might be why I remember it differently. Let me know.

I dont mind helping you out one bit! I know what a pain and hassle it can be right now, especially in your planning phases and this has been sitting around for a while without use when it could easily be assisting a fellow DISer

Hey Maggie

Thanks so much for the offer of the straightners. I will easily purchase them from you, would you be able to send them here though? I would want to try them on my hair before I go to the States. My hair is really thick and only some straightners will work on my hair. I had all intentions of purchasing the new MK4's GHD's which are dual voltage, but they cost an awful lot of money, so this would save me a fortune. The ones I have at the moment are ceramic and heat up to 210 degrees.
Thanks again for the offer Maggie, let me know and I can see how to pay you:flower3:
