I would love to book now for Sept. 2010 but unable to post vacation with my employer until April. Just wanted to know your thoughts if the costs of US tickets and if staying on site at US will increase when the Harry Potter part of the park opens next summer? Wanted to know if availability will be limited at RPH also? This information would help me plan and budget for our first trip to US. Any help would be appreciated.

I definitely think they will.

The good thing is that you can book in advance and then cancel within seven days for the onsite hotels. Also, if you purchase tickets now, they will still be good next summer as long as you haven't used any days on them.

To cancel within 7 days of our vacation at the resort you must need to purchase insurance. Am I right?

No. If you book directly through Loews on www.loewshotels.com or by calling them directly, you CAN cancel you reservation within 7 days without penalty without insurance. If you want to cancel with fewer than 7 days remaining before you check in, I'm not sure what you need. I'm sure travel insurance will do it.

If you book through www.universalorlando.com and use their travel agency and pay in full before your trip as required, you CANNOT cancel without penalty quite a ways out. I'm not sure what the time frame is there.

from the website regarding cancellations:

CANCELLATION POLICY:
The cancellation policy for Central Reservations will be one night’s room and tax if reservation is canceled within 5 days of arrival.

Special Restrictions may apply during holidays and special events

Unless you purchase the packages through the Universal Orlando website with Universal Vacations and then here are the penalties:

Cancellation Fee for Bookings:
DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL - PENALTIES

45 days or more - Full refund*

44-6 days - $100 fee per reservation, plus fees imposed by hotel, airline and/or other components

5-0 days - $200 fee per reservation, plus fees imposed by hotel, airline and/or other components
