I'm sorrry if this gets asked all the time. I didn't see it addressed in the FAQ... at least I don't think I did.

Let's assume...

1) I have 150 pts at BCV.
2) I have 150 pts at OKW.
3) I want to alternate between the resorts every year.
4) The reservation I want to make requires 300 pts.

Question 1

Can I use ALL 300 pts to make a reservation at one of my home resorts 11 months out?
or
Do I have to wait for the 7 month window for half my points?

Question 2

Is the answer to Question 1 at all affected by borrowing or banking?

Question 3

Do points I rent or trade have to be from my home resort to make a reservation at 11 months?

Thanks

Only points from a "home" resort can be used to make reservations 11 months out.

Using your example, you could not use all 300 points from the 2002 use year (150 BCV & 150 OKW) to book a stay at OKW 11 months out.

You could, however, borrow the 150 OKW points from the 2003 use year and book a 300 points stay at OKW 11 months out.

Essentially, if you were alternating years of 300 point trips to OKW & BCV, you could use the 11 month window by banking & borrowing.

If I understand your third question correctly, yes, to book at the 11 month window, all points must be from resort you are trying to reserve.

Hope this helps!!

Mickey answered quite well, but I might add a little more detail if you'd like.

Your question #1: ONLY home resort points can be used to book a ressie at 11-months. In your example with 150 BCV points and 150 OKW points you could only book a 150 point BCV ressie at 11-months. You could also book a 150 point OKW ressie at 11-months. At 7-months, you could book a 300 point ressie at ANY resort.

Your questions #2: You can use banking and borrowing to achieve what you want to do. That is make a 300 point ressie at 11-months at your 'home' resorts. It would work like this:

2002: You receive 150 BCV points and 150 OKW points. For BCV, borrow another 150 points from your next year (2003). This will give you 300 BCV points for 2002. For OKW bank your 150 points into next year (2003). This leaves you with zero OKW points for 2002. Make a 300 point ressie at BCV at 11-months.

2003: New points received...you get zero BCV points because you had already borrowed them. You get 150 OKW points, which together with the 150 OKW points you had previously banked, gives you a total of 300 OKW points for 2003. Make a 300 point ressie at OKW at 11-months.

2004: The cycle now repeats. You get 150 BCV points and 150 OKW points. Borrow 150 BCV points from 2005. This will give you 300 BCV points for 2004 to make a 300 point ressie at BCV. Bank the 150 OKW points into 2005. This leaves you zero OKW points for 2004, but you will have 300 OKW points again in 2005.

Question #3: Example: To make a ressie at 11-months at OKW it is necessary that ALL the points being used are OKW points, no matter what the source. Points from any other resort could only be used at OKW at 7-months.

The same therefore applies no matter what resort you want to book. If booking BWV then only BWV points can be used at 11 months, and so on.

Hope this helps.

What about the transferring option. I saw on another thread that you can transfer from one contract to another. Here's what was said...

"I confirmed with MS the second time recently. You can transfer from one membership to another as many times as you want each year. However, each account only goes one way in a year. So, if you transfer out points out of one account, that account can only transfer out in that year. The account where you have points tranferred in can only receive points in that particular year.

MS confirmed that it is definately as many times as possible either tranfer IN or OUT."

I wonder if that would work in this situation?

So transfering will only do you good at the 7 month window if you have different home resorts and same UY? Or if you have 2 memberships at the same resort with the same UY?

Garretts92...

Transferring points takes on two different scenarios.

1. Transfer points between two different members. Example you have a brother who is a DVC member and want to transfer some of your points to him for some reason.

This also works in cases where a member is renting points to another member. Instead of the 'rentor' making a ressie for the 'rentee' as is usually done, the two parties may agree to just transfer the points and then the 'rentee' is resonsible for the points after that.

2. In the case where a single member has more than one contract, it is usually not necessary to perform any transfers except where necessary to complete points for a full day.

Example: You have two contracts at the same resort. A June contract and a December contract. You want to make a ressie somewhere for 6 nights. You could reserve 3 of the nights using your June contract, and the other 3 nights using your December contract, and then just link the two reservations together into a single reservation.

In the same situation except where the two contracts are at different resorts, you can do the same except remember that at least one of the contracts will now be a non-home resort for the resort it was moved into, and still retains it's original 7-month booking requirement.

Example 2: Same situation as above except this time you want to finish using all the remaining points you have in one contract, for example June, and only add what you need using the December points. You want a room that is 20 points/night. You have 45 points left in your June contract. You could reserve two nights from your June contract for 40 points, but this gives you 5 points left over unused. So instead, for a 5 night stay (100 points) you would transfer 55 points from your December UY into your June UY to give you the 100 points you need to make the ressie. Conversely you could transfer all of your 45 points from June into December, leaving zero points in June, and then just making your ressie from your December year.

Keep in mind as mentioned that ALL points retain their original resort and use year. If you transfer points from one resort to a different one, those points still maintain their 11-mo/7-mo status relative to their original home resort. If you transfer points from one contract to another wherein both were at the same resort, then all the points would still have an 11-month window associated with them. Also keep in mind that if you transfer points they may no longer be banked. Nor may already banked points be transferred. Borrowed points may not be transferred to another member. (The guidebook isn't clear as to whether you can transfer borrowed points from one of your own accounts to another of your own accounts).

Hope this helps.
