Question on what to bring:

I am working on my list of what to bring and I saw a memo board for the door in a few places. Is this a good idea? What kind of memo board would you buy and how would you attach it to the door?

My other question is that we have adjoining rooms and I have read that we need some type of way to keep the doors propped open...what do you recommend?

thanks in advance.
Dawn

Hi Dawn, welcome to the boards.

If I'm right, most everyone uses dry-erase boards. Most come with little adhesive pads for mounting. Easy up, easy down.

And I've heard families use bungee cords to keep the doors open. Walmart (or similar stores) usually carry them in assorted packs for under $10.

Hope this helps.

While I was out shopping for a few things for my cruise yesterday at Walmart, I found a small sandal shaped memo board with an attached dry erase marker that hangs on the door handle. It was $1.88. I bought it, and will use it alot, I'm sure:D
It was made to look like a flipflop.
:D

On my last cruise I brought a ton of stuff that I never used. This time I am going to pack light. I did pick up the ID holders that come on a cord to hang around your neck. I used mine all the time, as did my mother. We had an extra and a woman that she met at Bingo wanted to know where we got them, so we gave it to her. She was very greatful and she always had it on when we saw her.

I would say pack less than you think you will need...that is what I am doing next time!

Hi fellow Minnesotan!
We just got back from the 1/24 Eastern (i've started my trip report on that board if you're interested!) We didn't bring a memo board but I did bring a Post-It note pack which we left on the dresser near the door, along with a pen. We told the kids to leave a note if they were changing location, etc. Worked great. We took the two-way radios and never used them. They were kind of obnoxious IMHO. You'd be having a nice quiet time and suddenly someone's radio would squack "hello big pooh bear, where are you?" or "Mom, Johnny's being a jerk!" It kind of annoyed us.

We also had connecting rooms and we brought something called Strap-its. We had them laying around leftover from an inventor fair project. They are elastic straps with velcro on the ends so they were easy to undo when you wanted to close your door. Got them at Gander Mountain. We kept the kids' door open permanently with some curling ribbon from a gift basket, and used the strap-its to keep our door open during the day. At night, we closed our door but left the dead bolt out so the kids could easily push the door open if they needed us. Bungee cords would work too and are probably cheaper. The doors are very heavy!

I concur about over-packing. We had way too much stuff!

What do you use to tie the door open to? How big di the bungee cords need to be? Would a door stop work?

Thanks,
Tammy

When the door is open, it backs up to a dresser/cabinet that has a metal rail around the sides and back. The distance between the door knob and the rail is about 18" so Dh says you need a bungee cord about 18-24 inches so you can wrap around the door knob (which is a lever style) and then back around the rail. Hope that makes sense! I think the doors are too heavy for a door stop.
