Question on waitlisting

I have an Ocean View Inn Room reserved at Vero but really need a 1 Bed Room so I out myself on a waitlist. Does anyone know why they take you off the waitlist 30 days out but will put you back on if you know enough to call in? Why do they handle it this way - seems like they could just leave you on the list from the day of your first call right up to arrival day? I asked member services and was only told that this is what their system makes them do. I couldn't get a better explanation from the member services rep I spoke to.

I don't know why - they just do it that way.

If I had to guess, I'd say that it's because anything cancelled 30 days or closer to arrival results in points going into the holding account. Maybe MS doesn't want to argue with people who changed their minds, forgot to cancel the waitlist and didn't know about holding account restrictions. It's a theory!
