I have had this card for years, but never seem to remember about the 0% 6-month financing for Disney vacation packages.

My understanding is that under the card terms, any Disney Cruise is considered to be a “package” eligible for the 0% financing. However, can you use the card just for a partial payment toward your fare, and still get the 0% on that payment?

For example, if I placed my deposit using cash (or another card, like my AmEx), and later want to use the Disney Visa to make another partial payment toward the fare, will I get 6 months @ 0% for that latter payment?

I’m 95% certain that is indeed the case, but was hoping someone here had first-hand experience to confirm one way or another.

Please and thank you!

Yes. And if you buy other things like OBC those will be eligible too. I was surprised the first time I bought OBC and saw that part of my balance was eligible for 0% financing.

Yes, partial payments should be eligible for the 0%.

Thanks to you both.

@TestingH2O - do you mean OBC purchased in advance, or using your Disney Visa to pay off your folio, or both? If in advance, how do you do that? Just tell your TA to charge the Visa and add that amount as a credit to your folio?

OBC purchased in advance qualified for the 6 months with no interest, but charges paid onboard do not.

You can ask your travel agent to pay money toward your onboard account up until 3 days before the cruise. You can also pay money on your account by calling the phone number for Gifts and Amenities.

All of this. I emailed our TA and asked her to purchase some credit to apply to our folio. I used my Disney visa for this purchase. When the charge appeared, it showed up as 0% interest. I was so confused about what it could be for a moment.

Also, if you use your Disney visa to book your placeholder, that will be 0% financing too.

How do you tell whether a balance has qualified for the 0% 6-month financing? I don't remember ever seeing anything about it when I logged into my Visa account, which is where I manage my Disney Visa.

The only place I remember seeing it is if I pull up my actual statement on the website. There is a section at the end of the statement which shows purchases which qualify for the 0%. It will show the amount of the original purchase, the amount remaining to be paid off, and the date by which it needs to be paid off to keep the 0%.

There is a minimum payment to qualify, but I believe it's $100 (or over $100 so $101).

Also worth noting is that each partial payment you make with the Disney Visa will have it's own 6-month 0% interest period. So if you made a payment in January, that payment would have 6 months no interest; if you make another payment in April, that will have a separate 6-month period.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thx. Seems like a good deal if you don’t have the cash on hand, but need to make payment. And you get the Disney Rewards Dollars, too.

Still, if you do have the cash on hand, not sure if the Disney Visa beats buying gift cards at Sam’s at a 3-4% discount + whatever points/rewards a better card gives you (e.g., AmEx, Discover).

This has not been my experience. I've charged a one day pass for the rainforest room to my Disney Visa ($18.88) and had it qualify for the 0%. It surprised me the first time it happened, but it's happened multiple times with amounts less than $100. As long as a charge is made prior to the cruise, it qualifies for the 0%.

Thanks for updated info! I was told the minimum payment bit years ago, so maybe it's any pre-payment now. Seems so silly to give 6-months-no-interest on small charges! :rotfl:

Or, like so many things, they intend for the policy to be for a minimum payment of $100 but in practice any charge prior to the cruise shows up under the 0% promo. It does seem silly to get 0% on an $18 charge, and I'd never use my Disney Visa just to get the 0% on this. It's just one of those byproducts of using the card for DCL purchases prior to the cruise.

The play, I’m sure, is that they are counting on a fair amount of people to be lured into racking up a sizeable balance and then not managing to pay it off in six months. Then that variable APR kicks in, and Chase starts making its money.

So if I put down the down-payment for a cruise in late 2020 and then put down a payment again at Christmas, they will have 2 different 0% financing periods?

Thanks. (Only back a month from the Fantasy and already planning next cruise. :-D)

Yes. For each payment, you will have no interest for 6 months. If you make more than one payment, each eligible payment will be listed separately on your statement with the original amount, the remaining balance, and the expiration date of its interest-free period. Payments that you make will be applied first to any new monthly spending, and then to the oldest “interest-free” balance.

Is the 3 day deadline to prepay on board acct with Disney Visa for 0% a definite rule? I’ve read it in some places but not others. If a cruise were in 1 or 2 days is it worth calling to prepay with the visa?

I don’t know if there is a deadline or not. DCL removes cruises from the website 3 days prior to departure. But those cruises can technically still be booked by phone. It wouldn’t hurt to call and ask.

Enjoy your cruise!

Where do you see if it is 0% interest?
Are you asking where do you see on your statement if it qualified? Or where do you look on Chase's website for what is covered under the 0%?

On your statement, there is a section towards the bottom of the statement which will show the qualified promo amount (original amount charged that qualifies), the remaining balance on the qualified charges, and the expiration date for when the 6 months ends. I received an email from Chase recently that said they were going to be redesigning the statements to make this information more prominent. But I haven't seen a statement that has been redesigned yet.
