I hope I am posting this to the right area. This is my first time posting to Dis boards. Any help would be appreciated. I want to travel to NY from MA to see the princess and the frog movie premiere and also to see the World of Disney store. My question is: where can I park for the day that is somewhat inexpensive, safe and central to the Ziegfeld theatre, roseland ballroom and The world of Disney store (so that I can walk to all the locations easily).

Ziegfeld theatre: 141 W 54th St
Roseland Ballroom: 239 W 52nd St
World of Disney: 711 5th Ave

Thanks again, figment301

I can't help you with the parking issue, however, just curious as to when you are planning on going.

DH and I went into our local Disney Store about a week ago and he asked about the NYC store. He was told that they are staying open for the Holiday season, but afterwards will be closing. Originally they were going to close back in the Spring b/c the lease was too high for them to stay open.

Also, b/c they are closing the store, they no longer have the character meet and greets.

They are closing the World of Disney store in NYC? I had no idea about this. We are planning on taking a trip to NYC in March and this was one of things to do. How disappointing.

yes, the people that rented them the space would not renew the lease!! can you believe that one?

In NYC? Yes. This is not the first store that has happened to, nor will it be the last.

As a PP stated, they have been talking about closing NYC WOD for several months now. :sad1:

I heard some rumors that they will open a Disney Store, but I don't know how much truth there is to that. The NYC WOD had the some of the same merchandise as the WODs in Downtown Disney at DLR and WDW, but was branded for NYC. It was a sister store to those stores, not the chain of Disney Stores you see around the country. What I heard is that it will reopen as a sister to the regular chain of Disney Stores, but as a flagship store. I don't know how much truth there is to that rumor, nor do I remember where I heard it.

This makes sense. It was the flagship store and was changed when the DS was sold. Now that Disney owns it again it will be like before.

WOD in NYC I believe was operated by Disney Parks and Resorts. It opened at the time when the regular Disney Stores were run by Childrens Place. Hence the character meet and greets. I thought I read somewhere that they were looking to reopen a new store in Times Square...:confused3

That would be great if they do that. That store has merchandise that the Disney Stores themselves don't have and the park stores do.

OP - There is no cheap place to park mid-town. You are easily looking at a $50 parking tab. That doesn't include bridge tolls or dealing with the traffic during the holiday season. That just gives me the shivers and I normally have no problem driving in NYC.
I double the recommendation of the Amtrak. Take a cab to the hotel or the theater from Penn Station.

WOD will be closing at the end of the year. I asked when they were going to start reducing the NYC merchandise (hoping for a sale :goodvibes). They told me they were shipping it to HS in FL. I guess there is a NYC shop in DHS. I never really shop in that park so I just took her word on it. Everything else you can get in the parks or DTD. It's a very cool store and was my escape hatch when work got too rough. It's only 7 blocks away and I always snuck out at lunch for a Disney break. No more though...:sad1:

There is. I believe it's called "Youse Guys Moichandise". It's in the Streets of America section, near the raining umbrella.

I agree with PP about taking mass transit if at all possible. My DH and I went from NYC to Boston last spring on the Amtrak. It was an overall pleasant experience. Driving in NYC makes me want to scream, and the holiday traffic, as mentioned, is even worse. They even have "Gridlock Alert" days.

Gridlock Alert days are every Wednesday and Friday during the holiday season and then the whole week before Christmas. I actually chuckled when you mentioned that because I just thought everywhere else had those days too. :goodvibes Guess not. :lmao:

Most other places don't have Gridlock Sam giving traffic forecasts either! :lmao:

I read on these boards about a bus that goes from Boston to NYC for $12 each way. Couldont find the link but I did check out the site when I read about it and they have multiple trips each day.
If it was anywhere near me I would go that route but it doesn't pick up in this area of CT and I would have to drive 2 hours to get to Boston. NYC is only about 1 hour from me but I always take the train into the city when I go.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the information. I am leaving tomorrow morning for NYC with my girls. We will be leaving out of south station in Boston and it is $15 each way for each of us for the china town bus company. Not to bad at all. Then we will be going to the princess and the frog movie premiere and party. We will also be going to the Disney store. I had also heard they are closing at year end. We are soooooo excited. Thanks again

I always park at this garage when I drive into the city. If you go on the w/end, it's $17 for the entire day.

When you are coming down the West Side Highway, get off at the 44th Street exit. Follow 44th st all the way accross town. The garage (Hippadrom) is located between 5th & 6th Ave. You'll go through Times Square, you'll see a small coffee house (Red Flame) on your left. The garage is just a few feet down on the right side. (44th is a one way street). http://www.parkfast.com/

When you leave, exit out the 45th St exit, take a right and follow 45th St straight down to the West side Highway.
