We received our closing docs for the resale we just purchased through the Timeshare Store and have a question. One of the closing papers require we put in our social security number. Does anyone know why this is needed? We tend to not like to give out our social # if not needed. Has anyone had an issue with that?

For us, as International DVC members, we do not have a "social security number" (in Canada we have a "social insurance number" instead, which is a different format) . . . so TTS let us off the hook when got our 1st contract through them in 2006. TTS can get around this requirement. Whether or not they will let you is a question to ask TTS directly.

We did not need to give our SSIs when we closed thru GMAC.

If I remember correctly the reason for asking for Social Security number on a resale is because that is what is provided to DVC so they may identify who you are - on your first call to DVC as a Member you are asked by Member Services to provide your Social Security number for verification. Once you have your Member Account Number then from that point that is what you will be asked to provide by MS ( along with address verification ).

Since our resale purchase is technically an 'add-on', we'll have the same use year as our current points at AKV, would we still need to then provide the SSN for our first call, or could we just have it added to our existing member account?

I wouldn't give them your SSN. I didn't when I bought re-sale from GMAC. Just tell them you prefer not to give out that information. They should understand. It didn't cause any problems with DVC.

check that with them. You will still have the same Member Account Number so probably that is sufficient when calling MS about add-on.

I purchased a resale through TTS and did not provide the SSN. When I called MS for the first time, we used other information to confirm my identity (some detailed info specific to the contract I purchased so be sure you have all your resale paperwork handy when you call the first time!) Once you are set up in their system, you can set up a password to use in place of the SSN.

Thanks! I ended up emailing TTS and they said I could provide my member id on the docs instead so they can link them up.
