question on the 2 day park ticket meal deal...

Did anyone ever do this? I am staying off property, can I still get it?
I know if you stay off property in wdw you cannot purchase the meal plan...which stinks....

and also at universal, how are the resturants? any suggestions? we perfer buffets, is there a link where i can see the resturants and the menus?
should i make reservations? are there any character meals that i can do with this meal plan? and is it as many meals as I want each day or is it only 2 or 3 meals per person per day?
