I am a DVC Member and am in need of renting 5 points for my trip. What would be the best way of getting those points that I need, i.e. finding someone on the Rent/Trade board and have them transfer those points to my acct? Does it matter what property they consider their home or when those points expire when it comes to making my res or do those points have restrictions attached to them?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum by any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

It does matter when the points expire- you need to make sure they are valid during your trip dates. If you want to reserve at 11 months out then the points need to have the home resort you are wanting to be at. You may find it very hard to get someone to use their 1 time per year trasnfer to send you 5 points- it may not be worth their time.

You would simply have to ask in the threads posted on the rent trade board (I don't know if transfer wanted threads are allowed- check the rules on the top of the thread.

You don't rent points. You rent a reservation only. You need a transfer of points. If you are getting them to book at 11 months out at your home resort, they have to match your resort and UY. If you need points at 7 months out for a non-home resort reservation, you can purchase up to 24 points directly from DCV for $15 each.

You cannot borrow transferred points, but you can bank them.

I would purchase the one time points for $15 from Disney.

Ditto.

For 5 points, I think it would be MUCH easier and less of a hassle to make your ressie and then purchase the one time points per year from Disney.

Are you aware of this practice that started about a year or so ago.
That would be the easiest and you really wouldn't be spending too much extra money.

Just keep in mind that the points that you purchase from DVC can only be used for bookings at 7 months out, not 11 months. I believe TSS can get you a few points for bookings at 11 months out, and that's probably who I'd go to if I needed just 5 of them. And they're only $12 as opposed to the $15 DVC charges.
