Question on purchasing additional points, etc

We bought into DVC on the resale market (OKW), and are very happy with our purchase. I wonder, now that we are already members, if we want BCV points, do we need to buy the minimum 150 points b/c that is a "new" membership for us? By the same token, can we add on any number of points to our OKW membership, and can we buy them from Disney, or all points from "sold out" resorts really sold out? If so, what do they do when they exercise their first right of refusal to people selling their points? What would happen to our "use year" if we buy points from a different month, do they combine them to the month with the most points? If not, that would put you in a sticky situation if you were trying to reserve outside the 7 month limit...it would limit you tousing points from your nearest use year, right? You can add-on as few as 25 points to your contract. If done thru DVC, the add-on will have the same Use Year. If you wish to add at a resort that is sold out (like OKW) you will have to ask your guide to be placed on a waitlist most likely (they do use the ROFR points for these add-ons).

If you purchase an add-on by resale- there is no restriction on Use Year or number of points (except that there are no contracts smaller than 25 points). Be sure to figure all costs with small add-ons- since DVC won't have closing costs and most resales will.

Thanks for the QUICK reply, Doc. IF I buy resale, can Ichange my use year to my current one? Also, if I buy direct from Disney, how is the OKW point price currently determined? Thanks for the important tip about Disney not adding in closing costs, I'd overlooked that important aspect...

From what I understand you can buy a minimum of 25 points as an add-on if you pay cash. If you wish to use DVC financing then you need to purchase a minimum of 50 points for that.

You can not change use years once they have been assigned. The only way to get the same use year is to find a contract via resale with the same use year or purchase from DVC. They can assign you the same use year if it is available.

Price per point from DVC is currently $84 a point for any resort. From what I understand you can use MB as long as your purchasing from a pool of available points. If you go on a wait list then MB will not be offered. There may also be a minimum purchase to use MB on an add-on but I am not sure. Someone else may be able to answer that one.
