Question On New Tickets. 5 Days Vs. 7

I've completely ignored all of the conversations about the new system. I just now started planning our vacation, and it hasn't been a concern of mine.

Anyway, I checked things out at the Disney website, and it seems like the difference to get a ticket that is a 5 day ticket vs. a 7 day ticket is only a couple dollars a ticket. We will spending seven nights at Disney. That gives us six days and the day we leave and the one we arrive. We were going to have one non-park day. But, with the price difference I think that we should at least do six day ticket. For dollars, we can get an extra day and at least have the option of going into the park for a meal or riding a ride or something. And, then I get to thinking that for the first day there we always like to get there early and resort explore. But, it would be nice to have the option of seeing fireworks or something at a resort. So, with the new system isn't it worth it to have the 7 days over the 5 if you are going to be able to use them? Obviously is you are only going to be able to be in a park for 5 days, then getting 7 would be a waste.

You could always add the non-expiration add-on to the 7 day pass. That way, if you didn't use all the days, you could still have them down the road. That may be what I do in the future when my AP expires. I'll get a 10 day pass and then use it for two trips.

This is exactly what we're doing now that our APs expired. We actually added in the Plus Package and still came out cheaper than the APs. Of course, if you go more often than that in a year, you still might want the APs.

Madi100-For the couple of dollars difference, I agree with you. Get the longer ticket and you'll have those options you spoke of.

Is it correct that you can buy the 7 day MYW base ticket and then add the non-expiration option even after you have used some of the days? We are in the same situation as OP. Due to the ages of our kids, 7 days may be too much, but 5 days seems to olittle since for a couple $'s more you get 7 days. I think we will go with the 7 days and add non-expiration if we end up using just 4 or 5 days. FOr that matter maybe we should go with the 10 days MYW and then upgrade to non-expiration (then we could use these tickets for 2 trips).

Any thoughts/suggestions?

We just got back from WDW and I picked up the phamplet about the tickets but it only goes up to 7 days- can you buy a 10 day ticket and how much does it cost?

Yes, that is correct, but if you think you're going to go that route, I'd get the 10 day and add the no expiration.

Daydreamer64-I noticed that at the Disney store also. You can get the 10 day online either through the Disney website, or through a broker. I just ordered mine through ticketmania. They were the cheapest I found for what I wanted.

Spending the six additional dollars and buying the seven day pass (instead of the 5 day pass) is a hedge strategy against indecision.

If you went ahead with the 5 day pass and found you needed 6 days, you need at least sixty dollars to get another pass for the last day.

When you think non-expiration, you are already thinking of coming back. So long as you have any thought of coming back, you cannot go wrong with ten day passes.

A ten day pass costs $223. including the tax but not including the non-expiration.

Definitely get the longer stay ticket. If you decide you just want to have a meal in one of the parks then you can just go or just go anywhere, even for a couple of hours. It gives you more options and cost wise it's only a few dollars more. The way the new system is, the more you stay the less it is per day.
I'm just trying to figure out the difference between the park plus and the premium ticket. I'm going in August and will be getting the 10-day.

What is the difference between the park plus and the premium?

The Plus ticket gives you the ability to visit the water parks, DisneyQuest etc., but does not give you park hopping privileges. The premium ticket includes both the benefits of the plus ticket AND the hopper ticket.

OK, thanks! I guess it's the premium ticket that I want because hopping is a must at WDW.

I couldn't pass up buying a longer pass for only a few dollars more with the MYW tickets. Before those came along the original plan for us was to buy 4-day PH tickets and do Chef Mickey's on arrival day and maybe DTD the last day. But when the new tickets came out we went with 6-day tickets because they were $130 cheaper and I have never stayed on Disney property before and I didn't think I could resist having the option of going into the park as soon as we get there and spending most of the departure day at a park. We are going to MK as soon as we get there around 3 p.m. and SpectroMagic and Wishes are both scheduled for that night and my kids have never seen Spectro so I think the couple bucks extra is definitely worth it with the MYW tickets. :sunny:

It's always been a definite with us to hop. Upon our arrival we always start our vacation at MK and end at MK, even if it's only for a couple of hours. Now that my boys are older they have the privilege to go off and do what they want and being that we are always on WDW property they can get back and forth with the buses. We all have cell phones so we can stay in touch with them as well which is great.
I definitely recommend park hopping to anyone, no matter how long or short your stay is because it gives you that flexibility to do whatever you want. It is well worth the extra $$.

Okay, thanks. Park hopping is definitely a must. I wonder if there are people who dont' park hop???? I couldn't imagine. You guys have really helped, but at the same time made me have to have another decision. I was getting pretty excited about having the option of going to the parks the day we got there (maybe for fireworks or something). But, the idea of having two trips paid for as far as tickets go is tempting also.

Oh yeah, I hear ya!!! We got APs to go for our Aug '04 trip since it was going to be for 10 days!! Yep, sure. I started thinking...'hmmm, wouldn't it be nice to go for Thanksgiving?' Well, that was good but wouldn't yet another trip in June be really terrific?? That's how you get to using about 24 days in a year!! Yep, pretty soon you'll be checking out airfare on a daily basis...then, you'll be planning on where to eat. Welcome to the 'APs aren't saving me so much money' club!!!!!!

We did the same thing. We were only going to get a 4 day pass, we are there for 7 days... until we saw how cheap it was. Spending only a few extra dollars will not force you to use the day at the park, but won't feel like a waste if you decide to spend a day or 2 at the resort like we plan to do.....

2 MORE DAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:rotfl2: Been there, too!

I hear you on the AP dilemna. I'm looking at getting them for both DH and me for the first time. I did a cost analysis between buying everything a la carte (have a room only discount currently, and buying 7 day MYW tickets); getting an AP (with DDE and possibly an AP room discount if they'll just come out for late April!!); and a MYW Plus Dining Package.

After crunching the numbers, the difference between a la carte and the MYW package was less than $50 all told for everything, with MYW package being slightly cheaper, but with a standard instead of woods view room at WL. The AP scenario is $277 more expensive than buying everything a la carte (and not counting if an AP rate should come out that is better for our room).

With that, the wheels started turning - why not get an AP, get more discounts, and more importantly, come back throughout the year?! I've already started thinking how I can turn AmEx rewards points into airline tickets, etc.

It's a sickness...but I don't want a cure! :earsgirl:

I've always thought the same thing...for a little more you can get an AP but for us I know we can't go that many times a year so the decision is an easy one but I'd love to go a couple of times a year.
But as far as park hopping...you won't regret spending that extra $$$$. Now you can go anywhere at any time and that's great!!
