Exactly, Beth. She is not comfortable having any debt for more than a month except for house or car debt (the "good" stuff), and even that she's paying off with insurance money.
GUD -- I passed that info on to my mom and she said thank you very much. The lawyer had pretty much intimidated her into paying him the $5000 to try to get her out of some of the debt that she felt she should pay in the first place. What DH found and what you've added have made her feel better about telling him no thanks.
