So here it is. My family and I are traveling by car to WDW at the end of June. We are all music lovers so we listen to music the entire ride. We like a variety of music... pop, alternative, rock oldies etc...

The problem is... every year that we journey to WDW by car we have the hardest time finding decent radio stations. I don't know if any of you have ever had this problem before but it drives me nuts! :crazy2: We start out leaving from home listening to the music stations we like. But, as we travel further and you lose that station we have a terrible time finding others. You do the search thing on the radio but it just never stops on anything good.

Now don't get me wrong... we travel with a lot of cds because the kids have tons. We also always have quite a few Disney music cds. However, sometimes you just have to turn those off and listen to the radio.

So here's my question. Can you guys provide my family with good radio stations that we can listen to while driving down I75 from Ohio to Orlando???? I would love to have a list before we leave. I know this may seem kind of crazy but it is just another way to try to plan ahead for a very long trip to our Magical place! I know many of you probably live in areas we will be driving through so I thought you would be the best source to ask.

Sorry, can't help you out....We always run into the same problem. One year we would up listening to farm reports for an hour before we found a decent radio station in NC :scared1: (no offense to farmers or north carolinians)

:rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

Glad we are not the only ones!!!

Invest in a Sirius satellite radio - about 15 bucks per month - and you have the same stations with you no matter where you travel. I spend 80% of my work day in the car and Sirius has been a God send.

I can recommend 107.7 WIVK from Knoxville, TN. It is a high power station, so you should pick it up from southern Kentucky until almost Chattanooga. It has won Country Music Radio station of the year multiple times. (I lived in Knoxville area for 25 years!)

HTH!

June

Also just a note to Honda owners... there is a button on your radio for when you are traveling. When you push it, it will change your presets to local stations. When you push it again, it returns you back to your original presets. This is a great feature when you are traveling. A lot of people don't even realize their car does it. I love the satellite radio, but I am not in the car long enough to make it worth it!

I'd seriously consider some kind of IPod or MP3 player. Then rip some cds or download some ITunes and get a good mix.

I've been in your place both as the kiddie and the parent. Our new car has XM, and we love it! DH uses it on business trips to OH. When I went from MI to NJ in April, with DD 9 & DS 1, it helped keep me awake (I sang along to the 80's channel! :cool1:)

Mine is only available in the car, but my parents have the mobile one that can go between the house and car (it can go anywhere really) and they really like the flexibility of it.

I'd highly recommend XM.

I dont know if you go threw South Carolina but when you get near Columbia there is a great station that plays everything its called 96.7 Steve FM.

Hello.... we are from SW OH too. Maybe we will cross paths in July! I have to agree with a pp. Satellite radio is fabulous! Not only is it great for the music, but we find the traffic and weather reports handy when we are travelling.

We drove from Pittsburgh to Orlando last year with 3 kids under 7, and our Sirius made the trip so much better. I've had my Sirius for almost 2 yrs now and all of my friends have it, too. We LOVE it!

When you get near Atlanta there is a new station 97.1 the River classic hits. Also if you like mix of rock music from all decades to current the new 96.1 is pretty good. It has music from yesterday and today. Both will carry you to Macon at least 96.1 will. I also recommend XM radio we listen to it as well when we are traveling and it has come in very handy especially for traffic and weather. We went through a Tornado warning in February while traveling and it gave up to date alerts.

We have had XM for around 5 years. We have it in all of our vehicles.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

I don't think we'll be gettin XM or sirius before we leave so I am just going to make a list of all of your suggestions.

Seconding the suggestion for 97.1 The River while near Atlanta! (BTW, HELLO :) :flower3: indigoextreme! I work in Gainesville and live in Jefferson!) GREAT radio station that the whole family loves. If you're into country, I also recommend 106.1.

Hello 3 angels. We live in Gainesville and both work in Atlanta. Son works at the Toyota plant in Jefferson. :goodvibes

my suggestion is like some of the others... the best investment for traveling is our satelite radio. we have XM but i have a friend with Sirrus and they are both great!!! My kids like it better than the portable dvd player...

Not sure if this is of any interest but the last time we drove we stopped at our local Cracker Barrel and picked up a few audio books. You can exchange them along the way and they charge you a few dollars a week. Kids opted out and had their own entertainment but it beat changing the station all the time. Have a great trip.:)
