My family is planning a 3 day trip to Universal either the week of Oct 28th or Novenber 4th (we are attending a wedding in Florida on the 3rd). I've not been to Universal in many years (high school at least) and my DH has never been.

Tonight, I started looking around at hotels so we can do our budget. I did not see any type of discount rates for the Universal hotels. I assume that if there are going to be discounts, they will be released closer to my dates. Just looking around, there are many hotels in the Universal area that look nice and are much cheaper. I know that there are great perks for staying onsite and the express pass sounds awesome!

I know that Universal has Halloween parties and the parks may be more crowded especially the week of Halloween, but how about the week after? If we don't stay onsite, will we regret it?

We are used to paying Disney's value rates. We don't mind paying more to stay onsite, if the benefit of the express pass is worth it. It is just a huge leap in price.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

i'm staying at a value at the motherland right before i switch to the onsite hotels at the darkside.

my room cost is $127 + tax at the value resort at disney. (end of sept/early oct.)
my room cost is $153 + tax at the darkside. (early/mid oct) then goes up for the weekends.

really, you get more for your buck at the darkside onsite hotels for when you will be going.

if you have AAA, they are available to book your room now.
don't know if you need a 3 or 4 day stay for the save more stay more promo for the hotel discounts. this is a public discount.
check it out on the booking site at UO.

if you make your universal portion of the vacation for the week of nov 4th, you'll get a decent room rate onsite and the parks will not have crowds.

once hhn is over, you won't be finding crowds at the parks in the daytime.
weekends, if the weather is good, does have it's following.
usually more peeps in a park on a weekend.

if you book your plans for oct 28th for the week for universal, you will see more crowds.
