Has anyone ever broken a toe/toes? How did you know? How bad on a scale of 1-10 did it hurt. Did it swell/change colors? Thanks.

This morning, a lady came over to look at our house to give us a price and my dog smelled her smell I guess you would say and started up the stairs after her. So I went after her and I slipped on a book and my foot hit up against the wall really really really hard. And then I had to run up the stairs. I thought I just jammed but I did this 3 1/2 hours ago and usually if I jam a toe, it never hurts this bad or lasts this long with pain. On my left foot, I can bend my toes no problem. But on my right foot, I can barely move them. It hurts to walk. And every once in a while I put my foot down wrong and it hurts like hell. On a scale of 1-10 of pain when I walk, I'd say a 10. But when I told my parents, they're like you're fine. Just walk on it. Don't baby it. And I try not to but it hurts so freaking much and I don't know what to do because I have 2 basketball games tomorrow plus volleyball private lessons. And I know it'll probally hurt if I don't do something about it. Thanks guys. :grouphug:

yes I have.

The original pain was enough to make you cry.

After that it was a dull ache unless you put weight on it.

yes, they swell and change colors (mine turned purple/black)

There is nothing you can do except keep weight off of it, and tape it to the toes next to it.

I broke my little toe, and it swelled to more than twice its normal size and turned red with some black and blue. Also, I've broken my pinky finger and it swelled up and turned purple. Thumb, same case.

I haven't broken my toes, but it sounds like their broken. I waited to see a doctor for my arm, and ended up brakeing it even more. I'd see a doctor.

Yes. I've broken my big toe. I broke it Memorial Day weekend when my aunt pummeled me in a game of capture the flag. In any case, yes, it absolutly killed for the first hour (10 on your scale). Even ice at that point doesn't really do anything (ice that I had to get myself!). Mine swole to about twice its normal size and turned purple, blue, and black in different areas (around the nail it was purpleish, by the joint it was black, between the two toes was blue, etc.). The best thing to do is to tape it next to the toe around it. I'm not sure if you broke it based on what you've told us (because it varies, obviously). My aunt (whose house I was at at the time) works in the emergency room and she confirmed what was quite obviously wrong with my foot.

For that week, the pain was probably about 7-8.

But even now, somedays it's at a 0 and the next day it may be at a 6 or 7 and I still can't bend it as well as I can my other toe.

Thanks guys. I swear my toes are a different color than normal but my parents think otherwise. I'll ice it and tape it and see what happens.

Thanks again.

I've dislocated two of my toes before, but never broken one. It sounds like you have a serious injury. I'd go to the doctor ASAP.

I don't know if I broke my toe, or if it was just badly injured.
I like hit it hard against the wall.
I believe it changed colors.
It hurt when I walked, when I ran, but I still did those things anyways (I had volleyball, and decided I'd rather cause myself pain than sit out)

My mom said even if they were broken and I went to the doctor they couldnt do anything for me. So they're taped now and feeling a little better.

Thanks for the advice guys. :grouphug:

I have never broken me toe. I hurt it though sometimes. Once, I slipped in a puddle and hurt it and it hurt. :\
