Question for those with the Kitchen Aid Mixer Shredder Attachment

I finally used my Kitchen Aid Mixer Shredder attachment today after having it for about 4 years, but I detached it I can't seem to get two pieces to come apart from each other. It is the slicing piece and then the metal piece that turns it. It looks like I should just need to twist it, but thats not working. Am I doing it wrong or is just very tight and hard to twist.

This happens to me every time I use this. I have my Dh always remove it. Here's how he does it. He take the attachment off of the machine. Then places the blade assembly with the shaft back into the machine and turns it by hand to the left. Make sure machine is off or unplugged. Hope this works!!
