How/when do you interview? Do you let the hiring agent know your current employer dosen't know? Do you go during lunch? If so, then do you change your outfit for a more appropriate interview outfit? Do you take a vacation day for a short interview? Try to schedule interviews all on the same day? Is it wrong to not let your current employer know, or are you under no obligation??? Help and advice is greatly appreciated! :(

I hate doing this. No matter how you do it, it feels wrong. But that said, you have no obligation to tell your employer you are seeking work. DH has generally taken personal time, usually without pay. He tries to schedule interviews for the very first thing in the morning or the very end of the day. Then he goes in a few minutes late or leaves a few minutes early. He also doesn't list the name of his current employer on his resume, only the responsibilities, job description. He would only release the name of the current employer when a good reference there is all that he needs to get the job. He tells the new company he has not told his current employer he's job seeking, but will need to give them fair notice if he gets the job.
Remember, your employer will not need to notify you if they are considering laying you off.

your current employer does not need to know. I havn't done this isn a while, but I have interviewed during Lunch. Mostly after work though. Most companies understand and will probably respect the fact that you can't miss work because of an interview.

As for dress - It's sometimes a give away when you dress up and normally don't LOL. I wear a tie every now and then and everyone always asks - are you interviewing??? LOL. I like to keep em on their toes! I sometimes say yes!

Early in the morning or at the end of the day.

I have even changed my clothes in restrooms at a fast food place! lol

DH does whatever it takes ( altho has not needed to change at McD's yet!;) ) He has taken vacation time, sceduled interviews while on work trips, done a LOT of video/phone interviews, has an the occaisional medical appt., but mostly co.'s have been very understanding that he is currently working in a position that requires a lot of hours and they have worked around it. He is leaving 3 hours early today tho for an interview this afternoon. YOUR POST IS VERY TIMELY! DH tells recruiters how "delicate" the situation is anfd that he needs to protect his current job while looking. Most get it and do not call him at work, only on the cell or leave messages at home or e-mail.
DO NOT let current employer know about job search...not even the slightest hint! DH goes in most every weekend to make sure all his responsibilities are met, so if he does need to take vacation time, personal day etc., his work does not suffer.

Good Luck! It's still a jungle out there, only more animals and not enough trees!

It ain't easy is it?

I always tell the person that I have to work and would be happy to interview after hours. Thus far it has worked.

There was one company that could only see me at 5 PM at the latest and there was no way I could make it by then. So I passed on it. Well, seems they changed their tune a bit and today (in just a few hours now), I will be doing a phone interview with them.

ROFL! That's too funny, Dan! And it's very close to the truth. I've done them at lunch time or at the end of the day. Yes, I even stopped at McDonald's and changed clothes! LOLOL! :teeth:

Thank you for your kind and FUNNY answers so far! :)

Very uncomfortable situation, so any ideas are appriciated.

FINFAN "It's still a jungle out there, only more animals and not enough trees!" LOL!!! Ain't THAT the truth! :D

I'll take any advice or hints you can give, and thanks again!

Mine was Burger King. DH likes to quote the Humpty song "I once got busy in Burger King bathroom"

I've even changed in my car! You can wear a nice shirt with jeans (what most people here wear) put your skirt on over your jeans in the car and then wiggle the jeans down. Don't do this while driving though! ;) lol

I feel this way if lay-off without telling you. Then you can look for another job without tell them.

I am so tired of my current employer BS that I really don't care what they think now.

Have coming for 3 hours and 30 minutes this week and that's it.

Yes I am looking for another job.

I so lucky for my seasonel job as concession stand manager I don't know what to. That's only thing that keep my head above water now.

Wow I must be so lucky! I have an interview tomorrow which my boss knows about (she wrote my reference and asked me what I would like her to emphasise in it). She has given me the day off work tomorrow and she wished me luck today. She asked me to text her as soon as I know. If I don't get it things will be OK at work as she knows we only apply for jobs to further our careers and it is not personal. If I get the job she will be happy for me. I couldn't imagine it been any other way!
