I am wondering if you can hook a Kindle to a printer and print a PDF document (ebook) that you bought from Amazon? Or can you transfer a PDF document from the Kindle to your computer and print there?

I sell teaching unit plans on Amazon. Currently I burn the PDF to a CD and mail it to the customer. I have a ton of requests from teachers who want to have a download instead of having it shipped to them. Amazon has told me that the only way to do it is sell it as an ebook for Kindle. It is worthless to the teacher if they can't print it though so not sure if this is a viable option or not. TIA!

I know you cannot in a straight forward manner but I also am sure someone has figured out a way to get it done. :lmao:

Thanks that's kind of what I figured since the descriptions at Amazon say nothing about printing. It is probably not worth my time to create all the units into Kindle stuff and then have mad customers when they realize they can't print!:headache:

I'd suggest you check out Smashwords - great place to publish your work and they will assist you into format conversions to fit all kind of digital publishing platforms including PDF files, mobi for Kindle, and ePub etc. I believe their commissions usually run to about 10% of the retail price. Many established authors are turning to them to sell their out of print backlist books.

adding in order to print, you would sell them a PDF file, they would download or copy it over to their computer and then print from there. You can't print directly from the Kindle.

Kindles read pdf files so you can continue to sell it as a pdf. The end user then has the option to dowload (either whispernet w/conversion or 'as-is' via USB). I don't see the need for you, the author, to convert the files when the user has that option. And they would have the document on their pc as well for printing purposes.
I am a writer working on that great novel. I have my work as pdf files on my Kindle and am able to use search, highlight and notes functionality.
Hope that helps.

Why dont you host the file online somewhere and send them the link once you receive payment? Then they can download it and print it and you save the shipping costs.

Something like this http://www.keepandshare.com/business/wizards/wizard_frontend.php?wiz_type=ffs
