We just had photos done of the kids. One picture I love so much but our youngest DD has a ribbon in front of her face. Is there any way to remove the ribbon? Thank you for any help you can give me!princess:

You may be able to remove the ribbon if there is another picture in basically the same pose, but then it will look "off" because the ribbon just disappears, so you would have to work some magic on that as well.

Thanks! The ribbon is from her dress so you wouldn't even notice it was missing. I was hoping there was a way to airbrush it out.

you say that you had the pictures done ,,

does that mean by a professional ??

if so even if you remove the ribbon any respectable photo lab will not print it for you if it's obvious that it's a pro shot..

why not ask the photographer about it...have it redone perhaps..

I had them done at Sears and I have the copyright release (I bought it). I don't want to have the session redone as I love all the pictures, but this one photo looks so nice and I would like to have a large photo made up. Our baby just has a ribbon from her dress in front of her face. It is not the end of the world but I would like to not have it there KWIM? Sears does not retouch anything. I have asked when I have gone before. I just thought it might be something that is easy to do. I don't really know anything about photography.

The bottom line is this. If you don't really care about what is behind the "thing" that you're removing, then the "thing" can be removed. An example is something like power lines in front of trees or even the sky.

Something like a face is very hard to re-create in the same manner.

Now, if you had another photo where the face was in the same position, it _might_ be possible to cut the face from one photo and into another. But it would be tricky, and very likely to look fake.

I fear you're stuck with what you have... sorry!

Thank you for your help. I figured as much but I wasn't sure. I still love the photo so it's no biggie. Thanks though!princess:

It depends on the location of the ribbon... maybe you could post an example of the picture... then we can make a decision off of that.. You would be amazed what some people can do with photoshop.

Yes it can be fixed. DO you have the digital file or just the print?

How well it can be fixed depends on the pic. Like how much the wribbon is covering.

I have tried photo restoration, twice. THis was my second attempt. Most everyone else can do a better job.

I started with a high resolution scan of an old print that was only 1"x1.5".

this one can be printed 8x10 or larger.

so to start, do you just have a paper print? I would be willing to give the fix a try. If you can email me a high resolution scan.

I'd be willing to take a shot at it too. put the high res photo out on imagestation or some such and also put a picture out that has a similar format, but that the ribbon is not in the way. It's fun to play at things like this. :)

I have the photo on disc so I am guessing it is a digital file? I also only have the one pose of this photo. I am not sure if that makes a difference. If you can tell me how to post a file I will do it. Thank you all so much for your help.princess:

It might be best to email the file.
otherwise you have to sign up at a picture hosting site, and make sure that they do not resize the photo after/while you upload it. there are free sites and ther are pay sites. I have only used www.smugmug.com for the last five years. You can allow people to right-click and save the original photo, as well as set up protections that stop right-clicks and even passowrd protect albums if you want to post pictures of children that you do not want the general public to see.

When working on a photo it is best to use the largest file possible.
