I was watching SNL last night and saw Justin Bieber for the first time. Personally, I don't think he can sing. He's cute and he can perform, but he can't sing.

So, I was wondering. Do you think our teen idols could sing? I spent my formative years lusting after Donny Osmond (yes, I'd say he can sing), David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, and then Barry Manilow (I was 13 when "Mandy" hit the charts and apparently, we are both still hanging in there) (yes, children, I am that old.)

But what about Shaun Cassidy or Leif Garrett? Were we misguided too?

Or maybe Justin Bieber can sing. He can certainly sell a song. Where did he com from anyway?

I loved Shaun Cassidy and Andy Gibb.
I think they were more talented than Justin.

I guess time will tell when it comes to today's idols. I am not sure of what Justin Beiber looks or sounds like, but some of the idols you have listed still perform. I went to see Barry Manilow at a sold out concert a few years ago. He may be starting to show his age, but I don't think he would be up on a big stage if he didn't have something going on. Donna Osmond sings in Mulan. I love his voice as an adult, not to mention he has retained his good looks. Don't know what ever came of the others, but yeah, I think they could sing.

I had a Bobby Sherman lunch box! I dont have a clue what he sang! I too loved Shaun Cassidy and Andy Gibb. I was just reading about Andy not long ago about how he was married before becoming famous and has a daughter. I never knew that.

I was all about Shaun Cassidy. I also loved Donny, ahh the memories.

Don't forget about Rex Smith and "Sooner or Later" :cloud9: or Eddie and The Cruisers!

Oh, imo the guys from the '70s could really sing - none of that fake marketing stuff that started more recently.

and for what it's worth, not even the kids are fooled by Justin Bieber - my DD says that his songs would be good if someone else sang them. And her friends all agree that he is "creepy and sounds like a girl" :lmao:

We must be fair though, Donny Osmond sounded like a girl at one time too. "Sweet and Innocent"?

I do think most of those mentioned could sing, but I also think that Shaun Cassidy and Leif Garrett were more of a product produced by record companies than actual lasting artists.

Bobby Sherman sang "Julie, Julie, Julie, do you love me? Julie, Julie, Julie, do you care? Julie, Julie are you thinking of me???........." I know this because my friend had a baby sister name Julie and we used to bring her into the woods and put her down on the ground so we could climb up onto the roof of our fort and dance and sing this song to her. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: The poor little thing was too young to get up and walk away.

Here is a link to You Tube. Turns out he also sang "Easy Come, Easy Go". Almost forgot about that one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7PLcHnMNKE

OMG, are you me?

I wanted to marry D.O..:lovestruc

I don't know.

I guess I don't lump the Osmonds, Cassidy, Andy Gibb, and all the other "pop" with Kansas, Queen, Elton John, The Doors, Boston, and so on.....

I saw them more as "Teen Beat" celebs than singers if that makes any sense.

Go to YouTube and watch Dust in the Wind or Boston. Man could they REALLY sing AND perform.

Didn't we all.......Loved Shaun Cassidy too, he was sooo dreamy!

My DD 11 thinks Bieber is all that - we just decided to quash her hopes and dreams when we said no to his upcoming concert.
2 reasons:
Didn't want to set a concert precedence at 11
at $92 + fees for a ticket we felt it was ridiculous.

I'm 15, and I don't like Justin Bieber (or any other modern pop star, for that matter). I don't see why girls find him so attractive/talented. Now, if you want attractive and talented, try Paul McCartney (my first rockstar crush), George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Donovan Leitch, Robert Plant, or John Paul Jones (in my opinion).

Andy Gibb=may he rip
David Cassidy- i think I love you
Shaun Cassidy-he just looked good
Leif Garrett-didn't like his singing but love his hair-what a mess up he has become
Bay City Rollers-Leslie, the lead singer, there were no words

Of all of them I only found Andy Gibb adorable, mostly because he looked like my true love Barry!!!:love: Don't know WHAT happened to Robin and Maurice? :confused3

I watched J Beiber for the first time on SNL, thought he was adorable but no better than his female counterparts.:confused3

I think Justin Bieber can sing. I've seen him perform live (on tv) a few times and I was always impressed.
I think he's a cutie and he seems like a sweet kid.
He has some sweet lil dance moves too. And plays guitar.
I'd consider him fairly talented, especially with the people he's up against.

He was discovered on youtube and he's from Stratford, ON (a small city not too far from where I live).
