Even though you live in Orlando do you stay on Disney property?
We moved down from Onio 3 months ago and bought annual passes. We have visited WDW about 4 times since we moved but sometimes it feels like we are missing something because we are not staying on site. We are thinking of staying on site for a short stay in the beginning of june. I was wondering if you all feel the same or if I am just crazy

I have stayed at WDW after the hurricanes. I also visited with my sister at a resort when she came to visit. I get to visit the resorts quite often so I don't feel like I am missing anything.

We live close enough to commute, but we always stay at a timeshare because otherwise it doesn't feel like we're "on vacation". Doesn't necessarily need to be on-site, though. But if that's what makes it "extra special" for you and you can afford it, why should you deprive yourself of a "real vacation" just because your favorite destination is a few minutes from home? Heck, my wife and I often rent a room at a nice local hotel and let the babysitter stay at our house overnight. It's worth every penny.

DD and I have lived here for three years, with annual passes the entire time. We spent one night at the Beach Club in February so DD could check out Stormalong Bay. It was a nice treat and I am sure we will do it again sometime.

From Oct - the end of May we are at the parks as often as possible, weekly and more, and this works for us. This year we have ventured out and spent some time dining in the resorts, and visiting the resorts particulary over the holidays (this is a must!)

I can't justify the expense for more than a special occasion at close to $300/night when my own bed is 1/2 hour away, but we also have animals that need to be cared for if we are away over night and that adds to the expense. It is just easier to make our frequent day trips!

WDW was not a vacation spot for us prior to moving here we had been only once 3 months before we relocated, so there are other places that I prefer to actually spend my vacation.

Enjoy!

Now that I live here I don't stay at the resorts anymore....I'm a stone's throw away but I do go over a lot. We eat at the resort restaurants and since I do live here I always have people from back home requesting stuff from either the parks or resorts.
I did think about spending a night at WL just me and DH but I haven't made ressies yet.
Honestly, now that we are here I actually perfer going on DCL. We have 1 cruise down and 2 more coming up. Can't beat FL ressie rates!!!!

We've been in Florida about 2 years now, in Orlando for the last year or so. We have Seasonal Annual Passes so we try to visit as often as possible. I felt the same way you did about feeling like you're missing something when you don't stay onsite. It just isn't the same when you know that after you get done watching Fantasmic that you have to trek to the parking lot, get in the car, drive down I-4 and go home and feed the cats and do laundry. It definitely does not give you the same feeling. That being said, we have changed our "outlook" on going to Disney now. AT some point in time, unless you plan on only going on vacation down the road at Disney World, you have to look at it as a nice place to spend a few hours at occasionally rather than your premier vacation destination. Or rather WE had to change our outlook! There is no way we could afford to stay on-site at Disney all the time, way too much $$ would be spent and we wouldn't be able to go away on vaca anywhere else. We've decided that once a year or so we will fork over the dough, get a pet sitter for the cats and take a couple vaca days and stay at a moderate resort at Disney for maybe 2 or 3 nights tops. That way we can get the best of both worlds for a couple days. We are happy now to be able to go to Disney for a couple hours on a Sunday when we're bored and enjoy the parks and go home.

It's certainly taken us awhile to get "there" though!

I would love to stay on property but DH says we only live 10 minutes away, so why spend the money when our beds are only down the road. Just can't justify the price. Instead we have been on DCL 3 times so I won't cry too loud. I love to cruise. :cheer2:  :cheer2:
