Question for my fellow Canadians asking what you would have done in this situation

On a previous vacation to WDW my family & I were shopping at the Prime Outlet Mall (formally known as the Belz Outlet Mall on International Drive). Every time we go there we like to take a copy of the I Heart Orlando magazine at the discounted ticket both with all the other free brochures, because we like them as a souviner & for coupons to the Golden Coral. Anyway if you have ever seen this magazine before at the Prime Outlets or other stores along 192 with discounted ticket boths you should know that even though there is a price of $3.95, the people working there don't mind that you take them. I remember one time asking if these were for free & the person said yes they were take as many as you want. Anyway while we were at the Prime Outlets I had noticed them sitting behind the clerk which were still in plastic because they were un open. So I said to him very nicley could I please have the I Heart Orlando Magazine? He then tells that will be $4.00, I then tell him $4.00 they are free. All of the sudden he looks at me & in a very rude voice says free, where does it say free? Myself & my parents wanted to tell this guy why are you trying to rip me off, but we had walked away. Later on I said to my parents, god I wish I had reported the guy to the manager of the mall or to someone who is high ranking. Now here comes the best part. 2 Days later we go back the Prime Outlets & what do I see? Well I see about 30 I Heart Orlando magazines on the table free for the taking & the same person working there. So on purpose I took one along with my Mom & Dad. So tell me that the guy was not trying to rip me off? I hope nobody flames me on this & says to me well the guy was right because there is a price on the magazine so he was just doing his job. Well then how do you explain these magazines always being free at every ticket outlet in Orlando & the same guy putting them out on the counter for mall shoppers? Anway if you were in this situation would you have reported him, or said I don't want this to ruin my familes vacation?

Sounds to me like he thought he was right originally and then after you left he looked into it further and found out he was wrong.

You know what they say, you should pick your battles and this one is definately not worth picking................especially when on vacation!!!

What would have been the point of complaining? Choose your battles very carefully. I would have to say that he could very well have honestly believed they cost $4 and was doing his job. These very magazines exist in Canada too -- I've picked up magazines in some locations for free and find they are being sold in Chapters.

He was never right originally. He may have thought he was, whether he was or not - especially if he wasn't even from Orlando and had just moved there or something. It might have been his first day. Like everyone else has said... let it go. Life is way to short for you to dwell on pettiness.

OK CR Resort Fan -- you were right. He was wrong. All of us have been wrong. You should have pursued this to the highest level possible -- nothing less than CEO of the company. You could request to be there for when they fire that employee. Perhaps you could even request to be the one to delete his information from the company computer. Imagine how absolutely amazing that would make you feel.
Perhaps, in the future, if you ask for opinions it would be incredibly helpful if you would just tell us what opinion you want to hear. It would make it so much easier for us to make you happy and affirm you in your quest to save $4 when you're on your next vacation with your mommy and daddy.

Are you sure that this week's magazines are not sold for USD $3.95 plus tax while last week's magazines that were left over were being given away by some stores and booths?

I never said he was right originally, I said he "thought" he was right. There is a big difference.

He probably did some more investigation after you left because of the issue you made of it and found out he was wrong.

No one is perfect and it looks like this guy made a mistake

this sounds like its getting pretty sensitive to people......

but heres my opinion....since you asked for our opinions.....

i would have asked to speak to his manager and clarified the situation right then and there. nothing wrong with that. all depends on the approach. just ask the manager why his/her staff is charging for the mag while other places you have been have not charged. very nuetral. not accusatory.

So what do I think should have been done in a situation like that? Exactly what everyone else has already said-walk away. Definatly not worth the stress it would give you on a vacation. But, that is probebly not what I actually would have done. I, unfortunatly, have a bad temper. (Im working on it, though) i probebly would have gotten mad at the guy and started arquing with him. Then I would have asked to see a manager. Then I probebly would have been so mad by now, I would have given the manager heck! But then I would have walked away still huffing with a handfull of booklets that probebly would have sat on the coffee table covered in dust and then would have ended up in the garbage. It's not worth it.
