I'm new to the board today and this is my first post. We are planning my our 2004 Disney vacation - hopefully at the WL. Our 2 previous trips were in October - what a great time visit. Weather is great and low crowds. Has anyone every been in July? Kind of concerned about crowds and definitely about weather!

Welcome! Most of my trips are during the summer. It is very, very HOT and HIGH HUMIDITY!!! However, we get up early each morning and go to an early entry park or when a park opens. We stop for an early lunch around 11:15-11:45 ish. We usually head back to the resort during the heat of the afternoon and use the pool and rest in our room. Then, go out for dinner and evenings in the park. If you go with a good attitude about the weather and realize you can manage it, it is fine. July can be a crowded time particularly around the Fourth.

I will be going this July - 24th through the 28th.

Mouseteacher has given you the best advice. That is exactly what we do - get an early start, stop for a nice lunch, go back to the resort to rest or to the pool. We then start thinking about dinner and perhaps hit another park. It will be hot, humid and crowded. If you think about it too much, you won't do it. Don't push yourselves too much and you will be fine. Drink lots of water and don't forget the sunscreen!!

We are leaving next Wednesday for Boardwalk Inn and Portofino Bay - big fun!

My wife and I went to Walt Disney World in July of 1999. Agree with Mouseteacher that it was hot and humid, though not as bad as I expected.

Though, I wore a backpack much of the week and my back became really chaffed from the sweating and rubbing.

I also had bug bites on my legs, which I put toothpaste on to stop the itching. It worked and I was minty fresh. :p

I didn't think the crowds were that bad for summer either. At Disneyland, our usual theme park destination, summer crowds are to be avoided. Maybe because there is just so much more room for everyone at WDW that it wasn't much of a problem.

We must have had a pretty good time in July since we will be back at WDW this July, staying at the Wilderness Lodge. We're looking forward to it - heat, humidity, possible crowds and all.

I'm sure you'll have a great time on your July 2004 vacation!

Welcome to the DISBOARDS disneyatl!

You have received great advice already. We go multiple times each year and one of those trips is always in July. We will be at OKW 2BR from July 5-12, 2003.

It is Hot and Humid...but not much different from our wonderful home state!

Start early, pace yourself, swim, go to DTD and see a movie during the afternoons, etc...

Have a great time!

:D

We have gone every year during the 4th of July and we would not go any other time. Yes it is crowded and it can be hot but I have been in August and it was hotter. Why do we love the 4th there? A WDW engineer in charge of much of the WDW grounds told me that WDW plans rehab of rides and Resorts to be ready and at its best for the 4th of July week. I have even seen it myself. We checked into the Polynesian one year on the 1st and there were walls up outside the entrance because they were painting and cleaning. I was told they were getting the resort ready for the 4th. Also many of the rides down for rehab in May and June were set to open back up for the 4th. When I have gone in the Fall the parks closed early, there were no fireworks most of the days and many shows and rides were closed.

As far as crowds in July well yes there are more people but just about everything is open so there is more places for all the people to go. Also things are open later so people go in and out all day. Every time we have been in WDW for the 4th we keep a journal and one of the tings we keep track of was our longest wait time. With using fast pass or just knowing where to go when we never waited longer than 15 for anything and most things we got on in less than 5. Also there is usually a little rain almost every day around 3:00 which the clouds help keep things cooler and the rain does not feel bad at all. Besides all of those things there are always special things going on for the 4th and I don’t think there is a better place to be for the 4th of July.

Thanks Tikiman.

This year will be our first trip in July and your feedback was helpful, and good to hear.

We were concerned about heat, crowds, etc... but you've helped to address those.

Looking forward to being there in 36 Days!!!

We visit WDW each summer. Yes, it is hot, yes, it is humid but I would rather be at WDW than home. :)

We stay away from the EE parks, as they tend to be busy on their given days, it has always worked for us. We always take a break and head back to the resort, swim, nap, whatever! Then we head out later in the evening when it is "cooler". I love summer at WDW! :smooth:

My trip isn't until NEXT summer, but reading all of these posts, especially Tikiman's got me stoked!!!! I can't even imagine
how totally pumped I'll be this time next year! All I can say is I feel bad for my friends cuz its gonna be a L-O-N-G year for them!!!!! Part of the reason that we picked that time of year to go(other than my friend is a teacher and that's the ONLY time she can go for 12 days) is that we're both turning the big 5-0 and we think there's no better place for that to happen.

Thanks for all the great advice. Most of it is basically what I expected - HEAT, HEAT and more HEAT. But we'll be at Disney so I think I can stand it. We were planning on going around the 4th of July so thanks for that great info during that time. Need to finalize my plans and then will figure out how to add the countdown to my posts.

Thanks again for all the info.

Hey, what the heck! I'll add my 2 cents as well!

First of all, welcome disneyatl! The advice you have been given is right on the money! We, too, travel down every summer (teachers) and do the early parks, swimming break, evening parks thing. One thought ... if you have kids, those portable spray bottle/fans are wonderful! It really keeps 'em cool and happy during long outside treks or lines.

Have a great time!

It's on be hot in Disney World. It's not that much different from summer in Atl. I have been too Atl in the summer I know how hot can be. Just drink alot water. The biggest tip is make sure drink powerade or gatorade in the summer replace the salt in body. I found out the hard way one at Six Flags and got dyhration from drinking all that water. Hat and sunscreen is must and be sure to get somewhere cool for a few hours to cool the body off from getting over heat.

Wonder how know all this summer heat I work outside a baseball park. I instruct my employees to drink water and powerade to stay hyration and my sure they take breaks summer cool so no one pass out.

My mom just told since I have enough money in our vacation this year to Disney. I so happy we was going to Gatlinburg this summer. Disney still have AAA rates for the summer for the July 4 week and I got one them. So I will before from July3 to July 6 and I have a ball. I will be the one with the lime green Riverbend Festival shirt .

I just live two hours away from Atlanta to. I love 95.5 radio station. As soon i cross the state line into Geogria that what will listening to until can't listen no more.
