Hey, I have 9 days at the Fort coming up. I plan on fishing on at least four of those days. What do I need to make sure I have in the tackle box? Any tips????

Not that big of fisherman though. My last camping trip, all I caught was a fishing pole. Pretty nice one, looked like it just went into the water.............

<somebody get Frank - he must be outside doing chores this morning> ;)

Dabyes, Frank here on the DIS is our resident fisherman.

You can buy all the high tech fishing gear you want or do what my 9yo DGS did last Saturday.

We walked from our site in 400 loop to the Meadows. I put a piece of McD burger on a hook that was about 5/8" long. He cast out into the water and had a bunch of nibbles. Had to put another piece of burger on and back in the water it went. Oh by the way, the burger was free because they messed up the order. After about 15 seconds he hooked a fish. Fought it for a few minutes then I lipped it, pulled it up and he had a 25" Large Mouth Bass.

John is correct,,if you fish behind the Meadows store, you can pretty much use any bait, burger, hotdog, chicken skin, bread, popcorn, watermelon, etc., and you can catch fish. And belive me, there are some big swimmers in that pond. We caught a buncha 30" cats outta there last Dec.-Jan.(theres bass in them there waters too)

If ya wanna try the big lake, it's not as easy catch'n.
Just make sure you have a little of everything in yer fish'n box,,, top water, jigs, jitters, rattles, rooter tails, spinners, etc... I don't spend much time onna lure if I don't get a hit pretty quick,, I'll move onto another lure til I find what works.

Top water works well in the mornings, two of my favorites other wise are rooster tails and weedless plastic worm when fish'n along shore grass.

I hope you hava reel that can cast far, lotta grass along the shores of the big lake , but you can find some good spots if ya don't mind walk'n a little.

All that being said, if you can get your hands on some live shinners, that'll be the best bait you can use on Bay Lake :thumbsup2. Those swimmers are conditioned to dining on the finest because of the Guided Fishing Excursions over the years.

And always remember, at Disney it's catch and release only,,don't fish from any beach area or resort docks.
You also do not need a fish license to wet a line on Disney property.

Happy fish'n and Happy Holidayz to you and yours ! :santa:

Thanks Frank! I like randomly reading the fishing conditions to DH so now I have some more helpful info for him. And my son loves crabbing with hot dogs so I am sure he will like experimenting with bait...

Does hubby fish the Fort ?

We haven't been to the Fort yet, but he loves fishing and never seems to get enough time do fish when it is warm here... And I figure if I can incorporate fishing into our vacation, we will get to return more often ;)

Fished off back side of 300 loop. lake side of damn, can be hit or miss. Polorized glasses help. I agree with weedless is good bet, if you have a bait caster you should be able to get good distance out. There are also a number of guides for other lakes off disney propt.
