We only fly once a year and have never had this happen before.
We made our reservation on Friday, through the airline website, for a one stop over flight. We got notice yesterday that our flight has been changed to leave an hour later AND it was changed to a 2 stop over flight! Is there anything we can do?? We could have originally got a 2 stop over flight for less but that's NOT what we wanted!?!?! We are now paying more for that option when it wasn't our choice. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Ellen

Call the airline and tell them you do not want to take the new flight(s). See if they will work with you. Most airlines will.

I don't know that they can rate jack you when you've already paid for a specific schedule. That seems a little out of the ordinary. :confused3 And bad business practice.

Check their web site. Do they have another flight schedule that you would like better? At least call and quietly ask for that, starting the conversation with the fact that they changed your flight schedule. Most of the time they will quietly change you to your new choice, no extra charges, no extra questions.

The following argument is best done only in writing since it requires a large number of words (count them, at least my mind would be boggled if I had to hear them only one at a time sequentially over the phone) and also some print screens (each takes more than just pressing the Prt Scrn button) which you probably did not do and at any rate won't go over the phone:

"When I originally booked I had a choice of itinerary A (1 stop, more expensive) or itinerary B (2 stops, less expensive)
"(printout shown)
"I chose itinerary A.
"Recently I received notice of a schedule change resulting in an itinerary comparable to B.
(printout of new changed itinerary shown)
"So I paid more for the convenience of itinerary A that I won't get after all
"I therefore wish to request a cancellation and full refund."

We have had success using Seahorse's technique when the airline has "adjusted" our flights.

It helps to know what your options are . . . either on that airline or another, so look on one of the major search engines and airline sites for carriers not covered by the search engine (SW for one). Then you can ask the airline to change you to a specific flight if there is one that better suits you.
