Question for Disney Visa cardholders

Just back from 8 joyous days in the World. It was truly a magical vacation. Will post a trip report later. Anyway, we applied for a Disney Visa while we were there because they were giving out $50.00 gift cards with approved applications. So, I was wondering what your experience has been as a cardholder. What sort of benefits, offers etc. do you receive? Also, we booked a bounceback while we were there (free dining), but now I'm wondering if you get better vacation offers as a cardholder? Any information or advice will be appreciated. Thank you! :goodvibes

You definitely won't get better vacation offers as a cardholder. I've had the card for 3 years and the best we have seen was one time they released free dining to cardholders before the general public...but I don't think they do that any more.

I just stopped using my card because Discover and Chase (Ultimate Rewards) have much better credit card perks. Don't get me wrong, the 1% from Disney is nice, I usually accumulate about $300/year. But I can accumulate much better perks through my other cards. In just 3 mos. of card usage, I earned enough points for 4 free Universal tix on my Chase UR card!!!

0% interest for 6 months when you pay on a Disney vacation package - you don't have to pay for the entire package with the Disney VISA but whatever you do pay on it will be interest free for 6 months. This does not apply to room-only reservations

1% of your total monthly charges as Disney Dollars - keep accruing the Disney Dollars (they expire a few years after they're earned) until you're ready to use them and then have them transferred to a rewards card. Use the rewards card to pay on a vacation package or to buy stuff at the Disney Store or at WDW shops or restaurants or redeem them to see a Disney movie in theaters....

advance access to some promotions - For quite a few years the Disney VISA cardholders have been able to book the Free Dining promotions a few days before the general public. I don't think there are any exclusive offers but the 2-3 days advance is a nice jump. :thumbsup2

10% discount off of a $50+ purchases at Disney Store or at certain shops in WDW

That's what I can think of off the top of my head

You get a free 5x7 of your family and a couple of characters if you go to a location in Innoventions. We just did this for the first time this trip. We actually had to wait a good bit (around 20 minutes; don't know if that's typical or we just hit it at a bad time), but we got a nice picture for free.

With our Disney Visa, we were able to book tickets early (and great seats!) for Mary Poppins when it came to our city.

We actually are probably going to stop using our Disney Visa as often because Chase Ultimate Rewards are better. We already take advantage of Discover's 5% cash back and cash back on most online retailers.

Nothing. We get nothing. Not even the $50 or the $200 that everyone else seems to get. And it's been years. I'm going to switch now. NOt worth it.

We have had one for a little over a year now. They offered a free $200 when we signed up. It was nice for that perk alone but there's really nothing else that keeps me using that card. I have my gym membership on it ($10 a month) and that's it. I use the Chase Freedom card moreso now since it offered a free $300 to us for signing up and then 1% cash back on everything and 5% cash back on certain categories for a few months at a time (right now it's on gas so we get 5% back on how much we spend on gas each month). I have over $400 coming from them right now and I'm saving it all for Disney.

I just like using it and accumulating rewards pts that I use for my dining while at Disney World. It's just fun handing a person behind the counter my Disney CC and seeing the smile on their face :-)

I totally agree! I never had any expectation that this card was going to be any more than what it is. A cute card that gives me a 1% return on my purchases. It is an extra $100 or so a year that I wouldn't have to spend while I am at Disneyland.

A few tips that I've posted before but are worth it:

1 - Get your monthly charges to total just above the $50 mark. You get 1% of your monthly total as Disney Dollars and Chase rounds off. If your monthly total is $1-$49, you get $0 DD; total charges of $50-$149 gets you $1 DD; total charges of $150-$249 gets you $2 DD; etc. I ALWAYS try to get my monthly charges to total at the $50-55 to bump my DD's to the next increment. ;)

2 - Charge things that you would normally write a check out for and then just write the check to Chase. I have my cable and cell phone bills automatically paid by my Disney VISA every month. And then I turn around and pay it right off to Chase. Same thing with my annual homeowner's and semi-annual car insurance. I earn at least $38 DD every year simply by routing my monthly bills through my Disney VISA instead of paying them directly. :cool2: I only wish my electric bill could be paid with a CC every month. :sad1:

3 - Not only do you get the 6 months at 0% interest on Disney vacation packages, you also earn DD!!

We received the $200 gift card offer in the mail. Now that you have recently been to Disney, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you don't start to receive this offer in you mailbox. I kept getting it month after month and DH already had a Disney visa! Now I just got the $25 GC offer for the dvc phone tour! If I were you, I'd wait a few months and see if the $200 GC offer doesn't show up in your mailbox. If you have pretty decent credit and get other credit card offers I'd say you have a pretty good change of getting that offer. Good Luck.

Like others have said, you get the free 5x7 pic (per day) in Epcot, 10% disc on $50+ purchases at certain locations, 6 month interest free financing on vacation pkgs, $50 shipboard credit on DCL when you pay for your cruise using your card, and I'm sure there are other benefits I have missed. While it's not the absolute best rewards card out there, I like it. I love the designs!! :goodvibes

What is a Chase UR card and why does it get higher points than a Chase Disney card?
