Question for California Residents - Can you buy resale over the phone?

When we bought DVC during our stay this past May, the guide told us that it was a good thing we stopped by the sales center because California law prohibits them from selling to a California resident over the phone. Would the same be true of an add on? I want to buy an add-on but I don't necessarily want to wait until next year when we take our trip to do it (even though waiting would probably be a good idea financially!!!)

Another poster just posted that their guide couldn't tell them anything over the phone because they are from Nebraska. What's up with that - is it the same deal as California?

DVC is restricted to discuss sales details ONLY in states where they are registered to sell timeshares. The regulations are very strict in this regard and DVC has been very insistent to follow the rules set up by each state. They cannot make any contact by phone or mail unless permission has been granted by the state of residence. They have no problem selling to those same people while at WDW.

Resales have no such restriction and may be handled over the phone and/or thru the mail.

I'd expect some delay for many states when SSR sales begin. No information is likely to be provided by phone unless/until the registration has been issued to DVC.

We recenty purchased a 200 point block for BCV over the phone from CA ! so yes it can be done, however as I understand it Disney is limited to how many points they can sell in CA each year. When we closed they only had 5000 points left for the rest of 2003, that was in February!

The resale market is a good route right now, I have seen many people offering dirt cheap $ per points out there and some others offering to pay closing costs.
